Is Torn Open the Future of Deathcore? Writing New EP as Through Composed & With Increased Intensity

While heavy music continues to be all of the rage, deathcore is a genre that is not slacking behind in terms of adding to the popularity. Stalwarts of the genre like Whitechapel keep growing, and massive bands like Slaughter to Prevail are playing in front of thousands of people, consistently. So the question is, who is next? Whoever is next is going to need to show us what makes them special in the deathcore scene. They need to have an understanding of how to build up that anticipation and energy before the big breakdowns, while having a different sound and overall structure compared to others, or get lost in the noise. This band, has that chance to be THAT band that breaks out next. Sofia from the New Jersey deathcore band Torn Open joins the Chord Progression Podcast. With the band releasing their new EP, Torn the F*** Open Vol. 2, releasing on May 1st, we dive into the band with Sofia by talking about: - How Torn Open is leveling up their sound from their first EP to their second EP, through the use of greater band chemistry as well as writing through composed songs. - The use of contrast to create an intensity increase throughout a deathcore song, that enegages fans and accelerates their internal energy. - Their insane inspiration of live shows, that you can see at Milwaukee Metal Fest in 2026. Haste The Day Comes Back to the Metalcore World with New Album "Dissenter" & We Preview It Here

Haste The Day has been around pretty much since metalcore got its jump back in the early 2000's, creating music throughout the entirety of the decade. But in 2011, they split, as it seemed that there was no much futher progression in the metalcore world to be had. Of course an album came out back in 2015, but that has been it. However, times change, and things change. As metalcore has become much more expressive and creative since October 2018 when Architects released Holy Hell, a reinvigoration of the want to make music thanks to a reunion show at Furnace Fest in 2023, and enjoying being together again, it's time to come back. Stephen from the metalcore band Haste The Day is on the Chord Progression Podcast. As the band is set to release their new album, Dissenter, on May 1st, we get into it with Stephen as we talk about: - Why Haste The Day broke up thinking that metalcore was over, realizing that the genre wasn't dead and coming back after a reunion show at Furnace Fest in 2023. - Why the band feels less pressure making new music on Dissenter, able to have fun and not have their entire lives, and identities, tied up in the band anymore. - If waiting to release quality music in 2026 is a better idea for a rock or metal artist than following along with the single dominated culture with the prominence of streaming. Goldstate Talks American-Style Pop Punk with British Vocals & Finding Your Unique Selling Point

Younger artists are contending with many different hurdles in the music industry now compared to 10, 20, 30, 40 years ago. But there are a few things that remain consistent that they have to contend with when compared to musicians of the past. And one of those is, the need to create quality music. But can a stubborness to create that high quality music end up being detrimental to a band's success? If a new artist is creating music, and members of the band are so set in their ways that no compromise can be made, many things could go wrong. Money wasted on recording and promotion of a less-than-stellar song, conflict within the band, and a struggle to continue on. So let's get everyone to understand that, so artists know how to succed, and what to prevent. Ben and James from the UK pop punk band Goldstate join the Chord Progression Podcast today. With more new music coming out, we want to present this Manic Kat Records band to you by talking about: - The history of Goldstate and how BSB TV hyelped create this connection of a brand new band. - If being stubborn, hard headed, and unwilling to compromise with your bandmates when recording new music will have large costs and negative effects on a new band in the long run. - Why Goldstate is American inspired pop punk with British vocals, and the importance of finding your own unique selling point. UK Hardcore Band Guilt Trip Goes Harder on New EP "God Forgives" & Not Falling for Viral Trends

As hardcore music, and heavy music in general, have exploded in popularity since the pandemic, we have been exposed to more and more artists making great music for us to enjoy. But with social media and tik tok driving a lot of discovery to a new audience, a new issue has come to play. The want to go "viral". With the want to go viral, younger artists in the heavy music space, and music in general, are creating music and catering to the viral moment. But there is a lack of connection between the viral moment, and the song as a whole. That leaves fans passing on a band that cant hold them for a song, just for a moment. So its clear that artists that make strongly cohesive and connetive progressions in their songs, regardless of the genre, are going to win in the end. Jacob from the UK hardcore band Guilt Trip joins the Chord Progression Podcast today. With the band releasing the God Forgives EP back in February 2026, and more to come, Jacob joins us as we talk about: - The positive reaction to the God Forgives EP, with a heavier sonic focus to the music that is meant to capture the live setting the best. - How Guilt Trip learned to write songs with a consumable progression, and why younger artists are struggling with it as the focus on viral moments on Tik Tok grow. - Touring with Malevolence in spring 2026 over in the USA, reteaching show etiquette as the music scene grows more popular, and Kevin's floatie idea. Almost 30 years and going to be 10 albums into a career, Atreyu have created music in many different ways to tap into their metalcore style. Whether it was their classic sound on The Curse, their transcendent sound on In Our Wake, and a more modern approach on Baptize, they have created their music in many ways. Scarlett O'Hara Returns Combining All Past Albums & EPs on "REDRUM" and New EP in 2026

For a band that has been around for almost 20 years, and only have 2 albums to their name, you would assume their influence on a genre would be minimal. But as time has proven with a few releases, and a few shows, the want and desire for more music has not died. Now with their first song released since their "Overthrown" EP in 2023, and more music still to come, many metalcore fans are curious as to what could be next. What could this new music consist of? And is it going to be more expansive than any music they have released since? Logan from the South Texas Metalcore band Scarlett O'Hara joins the Chord Progression Podcast. After the band released their first single, REDRUM, since their last EP in 2023, we got to the bottom of what comes next. On this episode, we talk about: - Why Scarlett O'Hara is now releasing new music for the first time since the Overthrown EP, and how much more new music is yet to come. - Having no pressure when it comes to writing new music, mixing the produciton of the Overthrown EP with the "Rise-core" rawness of Welcome To The Brodeo, into a brand new EP for 2026. - Getting more experimental on the new EP with inspiration from mainstream popularity, including new tunings and inspiration from movies of their childhood. What Makes Music Timeless & How LEVELS Achieves It on New Album "This Will Make You Feel Again"

What makes a song timeless? What makes an artist's music timeless? We listen to artists from the 70's like Queen, from the 2000's like Fall Out Boy, and Bring Me The Horizon's 2013 album, Sempiternal, and they all sound of the time, but they sound timeless today. But why? Is it because they don't use common influences of the time in their music and make something fluid for fans across the years? Is it because the influences of the time are so prevelantly in the music that it marks that point in time? Or is it something else? Well we figure it out, and show you a new band doing it. Dalton from the Arkansas modern metalcore band LEVELS returns to the Chord Progression Podcast with the band's new album "This Will Make You Feel Again" releasing on April 10th, 2026. Discover the new album with us as we talk about: - What happened to LEVELS after the release of the PULSE - EP in 2024, and why writing new music took precedence over live shows, when getting on tours proved harder than anticipated. - What makes music timeless, great songs that use influences of the time as accenting pieces, while the core of the song remains true to the artist with a solid emotional story telling flow. - How LEVELS used futuristic programming tones and production as influenctial accents to their modern metalcore anthems on This Will Make You Feel Again, solid to the core of LEVELS. When Broadside has been around for over 15 years at this point, their core fans know their sound and casual fans have heard of them. But as costs continue to rise and staying full time as a musician becomes tougher, Broadside was going to have to do something on album number 6 to really make a splash. So did they change their sound? Did they play into what is popular and the wants of the casual music listener? Did they work to please the algorighms of streaming platforms? No, they did something a lot better, with integrity, and wow did it work. Oliver from Broadside joins the Chord Progression Podcast today. With the new album "Nowhere, At Last" releasing on April 10th, we dive deep into how great this album is.
