JESUS IS… The True Vine — John 15 | Ben Molyneux

Series: JESUS IS… who he says he is. A series in the “I AM” statements in John’s Gospel. Date: 21 June 2026 Preacher: Rev Ben Molyneux (St Faith's Anglican Church, Narrabeen) Scripture: John 15:1-17 -- Jesus' declaration "I am the true vine" in John 15 fulfils centuries of Old Testament imagery, where Israel failed as God's vineyard. Jesus is the vine that produces the fruit God requires, succeeding where Israel repeatedly failed despite God's faithful care. The passage holds both warning and comfort: God removes fruitless branches, those not genuinely connected to Christ, while pruning fruitful branches to produce more fruit. The central call is to abide in Christ, maintaining constant, close communion with him through his word, obedience, and dependence. This connection isn't passive belonging but active believing, producing visible fruit of righteousness, love, and joy. The Father, as the vinedresser, works through life's difficulties and his word to cultivate growth in genuine believers. -- Our dream is to be a city of refuge within the city of Brisbane, where many people have found refuge, security, and hope in Christ. JESUS IS… The Resurrection and the Life — John 11 | Dave Miers

Series: JESUS IS… who he says he is. A series in the “I AM” statements in John’s Gospel. Date: 7 June 2026 Preacher: Rev Dave Miers Scripture: John 11 -- Bryan Johnson is spending millions trying to not die. He calls it Project Blueprint. The slogan? Don't Die. He's not crazy. He's just saying out loud what all of us feel. Nobody wants to die. Nobody wants to lose the people they love. Two thousand years ago, a man stood outside a tomb and made the most audacious claim in human history. Not that he believed in resurrection. Not that he could perform miracles. But that he is the resurrection and the life. John 11 is one of the most remarkable chapters in the Bible. Jesus weeps at the graveside of his friend. He doesn't pretend death is okay. He rages against it. And then he calls a four-day-dead man out of a tomb. The raising of Lazarus isn't the main event. It's a sign pointing to something greater — the death and resurrection of Jesus himself, and the promise of eternal life for all who believe in him. Martin Luther called it the great exchange. Jesus took our death. We receive his life. John Lennox, Oxford mathematician and Christian, was asked about transhumanism this week. His response? You're too late. The problem of physical death was solved when God raised Christ from the dead 20 centuries ago. Is death the end? Jesus says no. Do you believe this? -- Our dream is to be a city of refuge within the city of Brisbane, where many people have found refuge, security, and hope in Christ. 3. JESUS IS… The Good Shepherd — John 10:1-18 | Dave Miers

JESUS IS… The Good Shepherd — John 10:1-18 | Dave Miers

Series: JESUS IS… who he says he is. A series in the “I AM” statements in John’s Gospel. Date: 17 May 2026 Preacher: Rev Dave Miers Scripture: John 10:1-18 -- Jesus's declaration "I am the good shepherd" (John 10:11) lands in the aftermath of John 9, where the Pharisees, the so-called shepherds of Israel, have just cast out a man Jesus healed of blindness. Ezekiel 34 forms the backdrop: God's promise to come himself as shepherd, and to send a Davidic shepherd-king. In Jesus, both promises collapse into one person. He's the God who came, the Shepherd God sent. Coolio's Gangsta's Paradise asks the question every human eventually asks: Who's got your back? Jesus answers it in two ways. He knows your name, with the same intimate knowing the Father has of the Son. And he rescues you. The Shepherd becomes a sheep, the Lamb of God who lays down his life and takes it up again. The good shepherd stands between his sheep and the wolf, willingly dies in their place, and rises to lead his flock through the deepest valley. -- Our dream is to be a city of refuge within the city of Brisbane, where many people have found refuge, security, and hope in Christ.
