CleverDime - Personal Finance Quick Tips

Pete Omlin | CleverDime

Quick personal finance lessons that help you earn more, keep more, save more, grow more, and spend smarter. Most episodes are under 8 minutes because you don't need an hour to avoid a costly mistake. Insurance Savings First, Financial Wisdom Always. Ex-insurance agent who walked away from sales to help you instead. I'll never talk about how much coverage to buy - I'll tell you things insurance companies may not explain, as quickly as possible, like why a claim that paid you nothing can still cost you money when you shop around for new insurance. I'm also looking out for deceptive ads like fake comparison sites claiming to find you a great rate in seconds but instead sell your information. Got something you want tested? Send it my way. I'll investigate it, test it, and do the dirty work so you don't have to. Most personal finance content tells you to budget harder. I'm more interested in the systems quietly draining your money - lead generators disguised as comparison sites, services that charge for what you can do yourself, manipulative sales practices, and other leaks in our budgets. We'll test the claims, read the fine print, expose the traps, and discover what actually works - and what those savings can compound to. No 45-minute-deep dives. Just the results you need. Son of a farmer who raced Top Fuel dragsters. Finance degree. Dream chaser. Licensed agent. Learned plenty of money lessons the hard way so you don't have to. Earn it. Keep it. Save it. Grow it. Spend it. What topics do you want me to tackle next? I don't monitor the comment sections on all the individual podcast apps, but I read every single email. If you want me to tackle a specific insurance trap or personal finance topic next, or test a comparison site, or website that may be a data trap, send it to info@cleverdime.com If you prefer to watch the episodes, you can view them at https://www.youtube.com/@cleverdime https://www.cleverdime.com

Why Your Next Car Insurance Policy Could Cost 50% More

Thinking of canceling your auto insurance because you sold your vehicle, stored it, or want to save money between cars? Don't hit cancel before listening to this episode. In this episode I break down "The Continuous Coverage Trap", that can cause your next auto policy to spike by 10% to 50% due to a simple gap in coverage. I share the personal mistake I made before becoming an agent, how insurance databases flag gaps, and the simple inexpensive fix that protects your rates. Key Takeaways: • The Lapse Penalty: Why insurance companies view a 30+ day gap in coverage as a high-risk factor. • The Math Breakdown: How "saving" $100 on premiums cost me $250 extra on my next policy. • The Non-Owner Fix: How to keep your coverage record active when you don't own a car. • What to Ask Your Agent: Smart alternatives to canceling (storage coverage, dropping to state minimums, or non-owner policies). 💡 PRO TIP: Does this continuous coverage rule apply to property insurance? Sometimes. Property underwriting varies by carrier and state, having a gap in home insurance can lead to higher tier ratings with certain companies or make it difficult to get approved for a new policy. The Insurance Switch Most Homeowners Forget to Make

Having the wrong type of insurance policy can leave you completely exposed if you suffer a major loss. Whether you've turned your first house into a rental property, own a seasonal or vacation home, or have a property sitting vacant, standard homeowners insurance only applies if you actually live there as your primary residence. Insurance companies price policies based on risk—and a tenant-occupied, seasonal, or vacant house presents a completely different risk profile than an owner-occupied primary home. If a major claim happens and your policy type doesn't match how the property is actually used, you could face a serious coverage issue or a completely denied claim. The good news? Updating your coverage is often a quick call to your agent or carrier, and switching to a landlord, vacant, or specialty policy is usually far more affordable than people expect. The Hidden Insurance Discount Most Homeowners Leave on the Table

A few months back, my mother-in-law was shopping around for new insurance, and she asked me to take a look at her current policy versus the quotes she got from an independent agent. Within 30 seconds, I noticed that her current policy listed her roof as being the original roof... from 30+ years ago. She'd actually replaced that roof a few years prior. But because this happened before I became an insurance agent, I didn't know that a new roof could reduce her insurance premium. If I'd known then what I do now, I would've had her call her insurance company the moment she got that invoice for the new roof. I felt bad that she'd likely overpaid for years, and it got me thinking about all the things that I didn't know until I became an agent—things that quietly cost me and others money. I no longer sell insurance, but I stay licensed just to stay in the know, and I can help way more people by sharing quick tips like this. This episode is the first in a series of things I didn't know until I became an agent. I hope you find it helpful! 📺 PREFER THE VISUALS? 7 Moments That Make Me Slow Down Before Spending Money

Have you ever made a purchase and later wondered, "How did I end up buying that?" In one of the last sales courses I ever took, it taught a few techniques that completely changed how I look at buying decisions. None of these automatically mean someone is trying to manipulate you - and I've worked with plenty of honest, helpful sales pros but they're worth recognizing so you can slow down and make the best decision for you. In this episode we cover: ✔ The "That's Interesting" technique ✔ The Yes Ladder ✔ Feel, Felt, Found ✔ Social proof ("Most people choose this...") ✔ The Psycho Dial ✔ And a few other sales tactics worth recognizing. My goal isn't to make you suspicious of every salesperson. It's to help you make fewer purchases you'll regret later. What would you like me to test or tackle next? Before You Submit Your Info On Websites, Do This

Ever wondered why your phone explodes with endless spam calls and texts after looking up insurance quotes online? In this video, an ex-insurance agent reveals how popular "comparison websites" are actually lead generators selling your data. Learn the 10-second test to spot a spam trap and protect your personal information. This isn't just about insurance. The same tactics show up in Insurance quote sites, Mortgage rate sites, Solar quote sites, Home improvement quote sites, Debt relief sites, Survey and sweepstakes sites, Extended warranty offers, and Other lead-generation websites. You'll learn what to look for, where to find it, and how to avoid submitting your information without realizing what's about to happen. I also included a couple that I tested that were not lead generators and didn't SPAM me. I don't receive compensation for including them, I'm not endorsing them, they were just two I've tested with decent results, and I'll always pass along good and bad results. The test could save you days of unwanted calls, texts, and emails. If there's a site you'd like me to test, leave it in the comments. I'll keep doing the dirty work, so you don't have to.
