Climate Pulse is a series of conversations between environmental scientists and healthcare professionals. The first three episodes explore the following questions- How is climate disruption impacting non-communicable diseases and injuries? How are these changes impacting the spread and impact of infectious diseases? What are the changes in exposure and dose of toxic chemicals associated with a changing climate?

    The One Health model explores the impacts of environmental degradation on animals and humans, especially with respect to the emergence of novel infectious diseases and the evolution and transmission of existing pathogens. Today's conversants are professors Bill Pan, The Elizabeth Brooks Reid and Whitelaw Reid Associate Professor of Population Studies at the Nicholas School of the Environment as well as Associate Professor of Global Environmental Health at the Duke Global Health Institute, and Dr Chris Woods, Executive Director of the Hubert-Yeargan Center for Global Health and professor in the Departments of Medicine and Pathology at Duke University.     In this episode, we discuss how climate disruption is impacting non-communicable diseases, injuries and how the health system inadvertently contributes to the problem. Drew Shindell is the Nicholas Professor of Earth Science at Duke University where he studies climate change, air quality, and links between science and policy, and Dr Fintan Hughes is an Anesthesiology resident at Duke and has been advocating for the need for the healthcare system to pay closer attention to global climate disruption.
