I was mistaken when I said first black belt, he had certificate K-9-1 which I was remembering wrong. Here is a clarification on GM Hwang's rank from Thomas Gordan: For clarification, the first ninth degree under General Choi was Grand Master Rhee, Ki Ha (UK-9-1). Grand Master Kwang (K-9-1) and Grand Master Sereff (A-9-1) were promoted to ninth degree about six months later.   GM Hwang's funeral is this Saturday in Connecticut
