Free in Christ: When Religion, Culture, and Leadership Compete for Authority

In this episode of Life on the Edge: Conversations for Real Life, we examine what it truly means to be Free in Christ when religion, culture, and human leadership compete for authority in our lives.   In Faith Beyond the Edge, Galatians 2:1–5 reveals Paul's unwavering defense of gospel freedom as false brothers attempt to impose an Old Covenant requirement upon Gentile believers. We explore why Christ's fulfillment of the Old Covenant means Christians must never add religious traditions, preferences, or human requirements to the sufficiency of Christ.   In The World on the Edge, we consider the subtle cultural challenges facing Christians as governments, institutions, education, and emerging technologies increasingly influence questions of freedom, privacy, parental responsibility, conscience, and religious liberty. How can believers respect legitimate authority without surrendering responsibilities God has entrusted to them?   Finally, in Living on the Edge, we examine the leadership of Jesus from a New Covenant perspective. Christ demonstrated authority without arrogance, truth without fear, and service without self-promotion. His example challenges every Christian leader to ask whether authority is being used to protect position or faithfully serve the people God has entrusted to their care.   Through all three conversations, one question remains: Who ultimately has the authority to define how we live?   For the Christian, the answer is Jesus Christ.   Faith is Wisdom. Wisdom is Victory. And Victory is in Jesus.

The Light that Shines in the Darkness

Depression is one of the most misunderstood struggles in the Christian life. For generations, many believers have been told that if they simply prayed harder, had more faith, or confessed more Scripture, the darkness would disappear. Others have been told that medication demonstrates a lack of trust in God. But what if the issue is more complex? In this episode of Life on the Edge, Dr. Jack Farmer examines chronic depression through the lens of Scripture, neuroscience, psychology, trauma research, and New Covenant Theology. Rather than choosing between faith and medicine, this conversation demonstrates how God often works through both spiritual and clinical means to bring healing and hope. Together, we explore biblical examples of faithful men and women who experienced profound emotional suffering, including David, Elijah, Jeremiah, Job, and the Apostle Paul. We examine what modern neuroscience has discovered about the effects of trauma and neurological disorders on the brain, discuss evidence-based treatments such as counseling and medication, and answer the question every suffering believer eventually asks: "Can I love Christ deeply and still struggle with chronic depression?" You will discover that Scripture never teaches that mental illness is evidence of weak faith. Instead, the Bible reveals a compassionate Savior who is near to the brokenhearted, understands our weaknesses, and promises a future where every effect of sin, including the brokenness of our minds and bodies, will be completely restored. Whether you are personally battling depression, walking alongside someone who is, serving as a pastor or church leader, or simply seeking to understand this difficult subject from a biblical worldview, this episode offers hope that is both spiritually grounded and intellectually honest. In this episode you will discover: Why chronic depression is often both a medical and spiritual journey. What the Bible teaches about emotional suffering. How trauma and neurological disorders affect the brain. Why seeking counseling or medication is not a lack of faith. How the Church can become a place of healing instead of stigma. The eternal hope believers possess because of Jesus Christ. The darkness may be real, but it is never greater than the Light. "The light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it." (John 1:5) Scripture References Psalm 23 Psalm 34:18 Psalm 42 Psalm 88 Psalm 147:3 Isaiah 41:10 Jeremiah 20:7-18 Lamentations 3:19-26 Matthew 11:28-30 Matthew 19:26 Luke 4:18 John 1:5 John 9:1-3 Romans 8:18-39 Romans 12:2 2 Corinthians 1:3-7 2 Corinthians 4:7-18 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 Galatians 6:2 Philippians 4:4-9 Hebrews 4:14-16 1 Peter 5:6-10 Revelation 21:1-5 Research and Clinical References American Psychiatric Association. Mental Health: A Guide for Faith Leaders. The Gospel that Changes Everything

What does it mean to remain faithful to Christ when the world constantly pressures us to compromise? In this episode of Life on the Edge: Conversations for Real Life, Dr. Jack Farmer explores three timely conversations that challenge believers to think biblically and live courageously. In Faith Beyond the Edge, we journey through Galatians 1:6–9 to discover why Paul declared there is only one true Gospel. Learn why adding anything to Christ ultimately diminishes the sufficiency of His finished work and how believers can discern truth in an age of competing voices. In The World at the Edge, we examine the week's most significant national and international news stories through the lens of Scripture. Rather than reacting with fear, anger, or political tribalism, Christians are called to respond with wisdom, discernment, compassion, and confidence in God's sovereign rule. Finally, in On the Edge of Eternity, we answer a question every follower of Christ must wrestle with: How should Christians respond to poverty while remaining faithful to the Bible? Discover how Scripture calls believers to honor work, practice generous stewardship, defend the vulnerable, and keep the Gospel at the center of every act of compassion. If you are seeking biblical clarity for real-world issues, this episode will encourage you to stand firm in the truth of Christ while engaging a broken world with grace and conviction. In this episode: Why there is only one Gospel Recognizing modern distortions of biblical truth A biblical perspective on today's headlines What Scripture teaches about work, generosity, justice, and poverty Practical ways Christians can live out their faith in everyday life Key Scriptures: Galatians 1:6–9 Matthew 25 Luke 10 James 2 2 Corinthians 9 Ephesians 2 Proverbs and Deuteronomy Join the conversation as we learn to stand faithfully at the intersection of truth, culture, and eternity. Faith is Wisdom. Wisdom is Victory. Victory is in Jesus.
