CoinWeek Podcast #165: Mike Markowitz on Byzantine Coins

This week on the CoinWeek Podcast, Mike Markowitz sits down to discuss his favorite area of ancient coin collecting, Byzantine coins. The Byzantine Empire stood for more than a thousand years, falling on May 29, 1453 when Constantinople fell to the Ottoman Empire. Historians call it the Byzantine Empire, but they called themselves Romans. Their coinage is often imbued with religious symbolism and the echoes of history that they contain within have inspired generations of collectors. You’ll learn more, next on the CoinWeek Podcast.   The CoinWeek Podcast is brought to you by PCGS. The January February issue of the rare coin market report is out now. You can read it online by going to Pcgs.com. CoinWeek Podcast #160: Silver: America's Historical & Political Metal

CoinWeek Podcast #160: Silver: America's Historical & Political Metal

Silver is a confounding, confusing, and controversial metal, whose continued use in American federal circulating coinage from 1794 to 1970 was the a central focus of competing visions of our economic system, a galvanizing topic for 19th century American Populists, and a metal whose role in American life is as confounding as it is sometimes maddening. In this Podcast, economist William Silber joins us to talk about Silver and how the white metal shaped America and the Modern World.

Before we get into that, the CoinWeek Podcast is brought to you by PCGS. Now through June 30th, PCGS is running a Silver Certificate Special, in honor of important milestones for two famous American Silver Dollar coins, Submit 5 Silver Certificates for grading by PCGS Banknote and pay for only four! Great Podcast

I just found this podcast and have listened to a few episodes. I'm really enjoying it so far. My only complaint is that the host always sounds as if he is reading, even in interviews. It takes me out of the interview at times. I would rather hear more natural conversation. Otherwise I would have given it five stars. A solid hour of coin talk, each week, would be nice too.

Long winded questions

Charles Morgan the announcer gets very interesting people on the podcast and then he asks them run-on-sentence questions that take most of the time. The guest simply listens to Charles lecture them when they are the expert and he is not.
