I stumbled across this podcast while looking for biographical information about Karl Marx. In fairness, I’ve only listened to one episode of this podcast. That was all that it took for me to realize that this was not the resource that I was looking for. Due to this fact, you may be inclined to reject my perspective, so I figured it was worth mentioning.
As I stated, I was seeking an objective overview of Marx, I discovered this to be anything but objective. While there were a few facts put forward about Marx, they were usually drenched in the host’s adoration, and therefore they were told in the most flattering light possible. This is nothing out of the order for followers or apologists of a cause. However, the hosts consistently projected their own desires and plight on Marx, recasting him in their own image. Now, I personally can see the circularity of how Marx’s worldview and ideology will produce disciples who live and believe the same as he did. However, the adoration the hosts showed for Marx, topped off one host’s testimony of his journey to the Marxist faith, almost gave me the feeling that Marx and Marxism was just a means by which to exalt his own desire to be seen as a societal contrarian. By his account, Marx possesses the spirit of a punk rock type who dismissed the church along with the economic and political systems of his day. Who was also opposed to the advice of his family...but had no issue taking their income (oh, the irony). Yet was also the artsy type who indulged in alcohol and dueling. Some of this may be partly or even fully true, but these hosts’ excitement and zeal seemed to be rooted in their own self-admiration. It was very telling. So if you’re looking for objectivity and sober insights on matters, this doesn’t appear to be the place to visit. If you’re looking for the opinions self-aggrandizing white males who don’t seem to be concerned with deep insights or objective overviews, you can either visit your local GameStop, vale ship, an alt-right forum, or check these two out. Being wholly critical is very painful and these two seem to be intellectual hedonists of the first order.
