    246. Why Today's Needs Keep Beating Tomorrow's Goals

Why Today's Needs Keep Beating Tomorrow's Goals Have you ever promised yourself that today would be different, only to find yourself reaching for the cookie by the end of the day? If you've ever wondered, "Why can't I just do what I said I was going to do?" you're not alone. In this episode, we're looking beyond willpower to explore a different possibility: maybe today's needs have become louder than tomorrow's goals. When we're exhausted, overwhelmed, disconnected, or simply running on empty, immediate comfort naturally becomes more appealing than future rewards. That doesn't mean you're weak—it means your brain is trying to meet a need. Have you ever noticed that your weight loss goals feel so clear in the morning...and so far away by the end of the day? If you've ever wondered why it's so hard to choose tomorrow's goals over today's cravings, this episode is for you. In this conversation, Kara explores a powerful shift in perspective: maybe the problem isn't a lack of willpower. Maybe today's needs have simply become louder than tomorrow's goals. Together, you'll explore why food often becomes our quickest source of comfort, relief, or enjoyment—and how meeting today's needs more intentionally can make tomorrow's goals feel possible again. This week's experiment is simple: the next time a craving shows up, ask yourself, "What does Today's Me need right now?" It might be food. It might be rest. It might be connection. But whatever the answer is, you'll be practicing something far more important than willpower—you'll be building self-trust. This Week's Experiment The next time you notice a craving, don't ask yourself: "How do I get more willpower?" Instead ask: "What does Today's Me need right now?" Maybe it's food. Maybe it's rest. Maybe it's connection. Maybe it's comfort. Or maybe... It's simply a pause to check in with yourself. Because the goal isn't to ignore Today's You. The goal is to care for Today's You in a way that also supports Tomorrow You.

    244. The truth about cravings nobody talks about

Have you ever finished dinner, felt completely satisfied, and then found yourself reaching for candy, chips, or ice cream anyway? If so, you're not alone—and it doesn't mean you've failed. In this episode, I'm sharing a personal realization I recently had about my own cravings. I wasn't hungry. I wasn't even especially emotional. I simply didn't want the enjoyment of the evening to end. That moment changed the way I think about cravings, and I think it might change the way you think about yours too. Instead of treating cravings like something to fight or fear, what if we started seeing them as information? In this episode, you'll learn: Why cravings don't mean you're doing something wrong. How physical needs like sleep, food, and hydration can make cravings louder. Why emotional eating isn't always about sadness or stress. Why sometimes you simply want the food—and that's okay. How pausing before you decide helps you build trust with yourself around food. This Week's Challenge This week, don't try to get rid of your cravings. Instead, get curious. The next time a craving shows up, pause and ask yourself: Am I physically hungry? Am I looking for comfort? Do I simply want more enjoyment right now? Or do I just want the food? There's no wrong answer. The goal isn't to judge yourself. The goal is to understand yourself. Because the more you understand your cravings, the easier it becomes to make intentional choices instead of automatic ones.
