Studying the Bible is for Everyone: Practical Ways to Study Scripture So You Actually Understand It with Pastor Daniel Goepfrich

Send us Fan Mail This week we are talking about a topic that I am PASSIONATE about!! Studying the Bible!! You all know how much I love studying the Bible and how important it is for each of us to be doing that. I know it can be scary and feel complicated but I'm here to tell you that it doesn't have to be! Reading scripture was never meant to be hard. We humans tend to overcomplicate it and it's time we put an end to that.  This week I invited Pastor Daniel Goepfrich to chat about how we can practically study scripture and actually understand it. You will see below that he has years and years of experience in this area and it is a real treat to have him share with us!!  Daniel Goepfrich (ThM, DMin) has been the Teaching Pastor at Oak Tree Community Church for more than 20 years and it's local to my neck of the woods over in South Bend, IN! He teaches Greek for Calvary University and Bible exposition and theology for Word of Life International Bible Institutes and National Theological College and Graduate School. He is an Associate Professor of Greek and Hebrew at Agathon University and served for 15 years as Professor of Bible and Theology at Tyndale Theological Seminary. He regularly speaks for international conferences, seminars, and training. In 2017, he founded Theology is for Everyone to produce biblically sound resources that everyone can use and understand. He is the author of Hermeneutics for Everyone, Biblical Discipleship, a three-volume Chapter by Chapter commentary series on the entire Bible, and Marriage, Divorce, and Remarriage. He has also written several journal articles and contributed to multiauthor works. Daniel and Saralynn have been married since 1997. They have four grown children who are married and several grandchildren. Conversation Highlights: Hermeneutics = the science and art of interpretationWe don’t need a special code to understand scripture, just a willingness to learn and understandScripture was written FOR us, and we weren’t the original audience for itContext is vitally important in Bible studyA.C.T.S. Why the Resurrection Should Change How We Live Our Everyday Lives: Special Solo Episode

Send us Fan Mail I know... I'm just as surprised as you are about this week's episode. A solo episode... what?? Those don't happen very often so when they do, I stop and pause extra long to hear what God has for them. This time the Holy Spirit led me down a path that I never recognized before that makes total sense now!  If you have Jesus as your personal savior and you accepted the free gift of salvation then you know that the resurrection changed your life. Looking at the cross and seeing it empty alongside an empty tomb makes a massive impact in your life. But the question God asked me to pose is what we do with that information after our initial salvation.  What difference does the resurrection make in our lives beyond the point of accepting Jesus as our personal savior? Should it change how we live daily? The answer is yes but a lot of us don't know what that looks like practically. How does the resurrection change our daily life?  That's what is discussed this week on the podcast. A solo episode that dives into this topic that will hopefully help you approach Easter Sunday differently this year.  Conversation Highlights: If Jesus would have been a regular person his death and resurrection wouldn’t have meant anything to us, becasue He is God it means our sins are forgivenWe have to start living like the resurrection changes things in our lifeYou don’t have to prove your worth to anyone because you belong to GodBecause Jesus lives we are free, we belong, we are made new and we have hope that can not die!Connect with Kala! Going From Curious to Serious About Jesus: What Does that Look Like with Roger Ross

Send us Fan Mail As Christ followers who want to be more serious in our relationship with Jesus we hear a lot about being a disciple of Jesus. We hear so much in church about "making disciples" and "being disciples" but what does it actually mean? How do we do this practically in our every day life?  To help us understand this better I invited Roger Ross on this week to walk us through some simple yet super effective ways to go from curious to serious about Jesus. Roger has a heart for the spiritually curious. He has served as a church planter, senior pastor, and director of church planting in Missouri. He now leads TheHumilityGroup.org, coaching faith leaders to lead grace-shaped lives that transform the world. Roger and his wife, Leanne Klein Ross, have two adult children, a son-in-law, and one adorable grand dog. Roger shared about what we can do today to help us become more serious about Jesus. Here's your take home practical advice for the day! Get into scripture!!! This method of REAP is a great simple way to get more serious in your relationship with Christ.  The REAP method of Scripture Engagement:  Read: Meditate (think on) on a passage of scripture 2-3 times Evaluate: Identify commands, promises or principles  Apply: Determine immediate & practical actions Pray: Journal the insight and ask God how to apply it Conversation Highlights: Being curious gets us interested, being serious takes us fartherWe aren’t meant to stumble across the line of faith but to go deeper with GodYou are a disciple if you are in the process of making more disciplesWe aren’t supposed to just know but actually obey what God saysClose the gap between what you know and what you do, and that will draw people towards JesusEstablish the habit to be with God, don’t worry about what it looks likeConnect with Roger! Feeling Ghosted by God: What to do with Spiritual Silence with Autumn Miles

Send us Fan Mail Let's talk about when God feels silent. In today's world we would say God has "ghosted" us aka... gone silent. It can totally feel like that at times. Things get hard, situations feel impossible and now all of a sudden God feels like he's stopped speaking completely. What's up with that? How do we handle that?  My new friend Autumn wrote a book about it and I am so excited to tell you about it because it's packed full of practical tips on how to reconnect with God when it feels like he's gone silent. She takes us into the book of Job, a place not many of us venture too often and WOW did she come out with some eye opening and amazing strategies we can apply with we feel ghosted by God!  Autumn Miles is the founder and CEO of Autumn Miles Ministries, an organization devoted to spiritually challenging the way people think. The author of four books, she is passionate about women in ministry, Biblical literacy, leadership development, and adoption. Autumn’s larger-than-life yet down-to-earth personality and her tenacious, driven leadership style have enabled her to live out her life mission: to infect and affect all she meets with the passion of Jesus Christ. Conversation Highlights: Not knowing why God feels silent can be hardThe hard things to understand about God do not outweigh the goodness and faithfulness of GodWe have been taught not to bring God into our emotions about Him, that’s wrong, tell him how you feelGod desires truth in the inward parts of us, be fully honest with him so he can lead you into a new place with himRemember God’s character and His word, it will sustain youConnect with Autumn!
