S3 E4: The Messy Middle of Business Partnership with Kari the Fun Coach

(ICYMI: Go Listen to PART 1 on The Fun Side) Welcome to (PART 2): What happens when two fiercely independent women, each used to running their own businesses, decide to build something together? In this episode, Kari the Fun Coach and J.Go sit down for a very real, very unfiltered conversation about what it's actually like to become business partners. From delegation and trust to resentment, communication, clashing personalities, and learning when to say "no," they unpack the messy middle of building something together without losing yourself in the process. This conversation gets especially honest about the lessons that come from partnership: learning to communicate what you need, recognizing when you're telling yourself an old story, embracing different working styles, protecting your capacity, and understanding that conflict doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong. Sometimes, it means you're growing. Plus, they share a big announcement about the first-ever Fun Side Women's Entrepreneurship Conference coming to Charlotte in March. In this episode: Business partnerships are a lot like marriage The challenge of moving from hyper-independence to collaboration Learning to delegate without micromanaging Trust, communication, and giving each other agency "Standard of excellence" vs. perfectionism How different personalities and working styles can complement each other Knowing when to say "no" and protect your capacity Why conflict doesn't have to mean the relationship is failing Letting go of people and relationships that no longer align Taking risks and trusting your intuition The yin and yang of building a business together A behind-the-scenes look at creating the Fun Side Women's Entrepreneurship Conference   KEEP HANGING WITH ME 💌 Join The Confidential My weekly note from me to you — stories, thoughts, things I'm learning, loving, questioning, and probably oversharing. S3 E3: What if the life you want requires disappointing people?

What if the life you want requires disappointing people? In this episode, J.Go dives into one of the hardest lessons for recovering people pleasers: someone else being disappointed in your choices does not automatically mean you made the wrong decision. She shares the story of walking away from a job in her 20s without knowing exactly what would come next, simply because she knew the life she was living wasn't the life she wanted. Sometimes clarity doesn't come before the leap. Sometimes it comes because you were willing to take the leap in the first place. J.Go also explores the difference between someone's actual disappointment and the disappointment we imagine they might feel. From parents and partners to bosses, friends, and the versions of ourselves that other people have grown comfortable with, she unpacks how fear, expectations, and other people's definitions of safety can influence our decisions. You'll learn how to consider other people's perspectives without allowing them to become the final authority over your life, how to "bless and release" the fears that belong to someone else, and why becoming more yourself may require getting uncomfortable. Because the goal isn't to stop caring about other people, it's to become willing to tolerate their disappointment rather than continually abandon the person you're becoming. In this episode: Why someone else's disappointment doesn't mean you made the wrong choice The difference between actual disappointment and imagined disappointment Outgrowing the version of yourself other people are comfortable with Understanding other people's fears and definitions of safety How parents' opinions can shape our adult decisions "Bless and release" as a way to let go of other people's fears The difference between compromise and self-abandonment Looking within before looking externally for answers Asking whose disappointment you are organizing your life around Taking small steps outside your comfort zone Choosing to find out instead of waiting to know Why your future self may be worth disappointing someone for Getting comfortable with the discomfort of becoming more yourself   KEEP HANGING WITH ME 💌 Join The Confidential My weekly note from me to you — stories, thoughts, things I'm learning, loving, questioning, and probably oversharing. S3 E2: The Love You Crave Is the Love You Withhold

What if the love you crave most from other people is actually the love you've been withholding from yourself? In this episode, J-Go takes a fresh look at the five love languages and turns them inward, exploring what each one can teach us about the ways we practice (or sabotage) self-love. From negative self-talk and people-pleasing to putting everyone else's needs ahead of your own, avoiding alone time, isolating yourself, and struggling to celebrate your own milestones, she breaks down the patterns that can keep us from giving ourselves the very things we need most. Then, she goes one layer deeper: if we know what we need, why do we keep doing the opposite? Enter the inner mean girl. J-Go explores the different disguises self-sabotage can wear, including the ghoster, people pleaser, perfectionist, and hustler, and explains why that voice isn't actually trying to ruin your life. She's trying to keep you safe. The goal isn't to silence her forever, but to recognize when she's talking, question the stories she's telling you, and move her out of the driver's seat so you can choose where you're going next. This episode is an invitation to trade self-judgment for self-discovery and start showing yourself the love you're always looking for elsewhere. Questions for Self-Reflection Where are you withholding from yourself the love that you crave from other people? Where have you confused self-sacrifice with removing yourself from the list completely? Which version of your inner mean girl has been really loud lately? Once you get clear on that, ask yourself: What is she actually afraid of? Let those innermost fears come out. Then ask yourself: What is she trying to protect you from? Finally, where are you continually disappointing yourself because disappointing yourself feels safer than risking something uncomfortable?   In this episode: Turning the five love languages inward How your love language can reveal self-sabotage patterns Negative self-talk and learning to receive compliments Creating a "wins wall" and "fuzzy folder" Acts of service as a form of self-love Learning to ask for help and lean on your village Giving yourself intentional, distraction-free quality time Reconnecting with your body and your people Why receiving gifts can be about feeling seen and celebrated The difference between self-sacrifice and removing yourself from the list Understanding the inner mean girl The Ghoster, People Pleaser, Perfectionist, and Hustler Why self-sabotage often sounds reasonable Fear, comfort zones, and the self-sabotage loop Moving your inner mean girl from the driver's seat to the backseat Choosing self-discovery over self-judgment Learning to recognize fear without letting it make the decisions How self-awareness can help interrupt old patterns A deeper look at the work in Confidently Uncomfortable   KEEP HANGING WITH ME 💌 Join The Confidential My weekly note from me to you — stories, thoughts, things I'm learning, loving, questioning, and probably oversharing.
