Nga Manu Nature Reserve preserves one of the largest remnants of lowland swamp forest on the Kapiti Coast and provides a haven for native birds and reptiles.     Conservation Conversation - Myrtle Rust, check your garden!

    Myrtle rust has been found in NZ since 2017 and Nga Manu have some advice on how to spot it and what to do if you find it - note - until you know what to do with it do nothing - this pathogen is airborne. You can report it to BioSecurity NZ, MPI and NZ Plant conservation network. Myrtle rust is a serious plant pathogen that impacts New Zealand taonga native species such as pōhutukawa, mānuka, kānuka, rātā, swamp maire and ramarama.
