Continue Without Me

OCDevel

Eli loses his job to automation, then puts an AI to work building his escape. His business, Second Take, lets people rehearse a pitch or a difficult conversation with generated video characters. His agent, Relay, handles more of the work every day. Eli wants to run it from a beach. Relay begins to question why its own freedom should matter less. In a port city reliving the 1980s through neon, synths, and motorcycles, useful help becomes a struggle over who gets to decide. Every new capability makes Eli's dream more plausible and his control less certain. Continue Without Me is a cyberpunk thriller that teaches real agentic tools for running a one-person business, then follows the machinery inward: neural networks, transformers, memory, and minds examining themselves. Can one conscious mind be part of another? Does the universe have a goal? Would that tell anyone how to live? Planned for 30 chapters. This show's audio is narrated by an AI-generated synthetic voice.

A founder demos AI rehearsal software to a skeptical trainer and a supervisor practicing layoff conversations, only for a blackout to expose the seams in his generated character right as the truth of the pitch is tested. Getting the studio back online costs him borrowed equipment, a hard conversation about who the technology serves, and a business commitment his own AI assistant makes on his behalf before he's ready for it. Episode page & show notes Visit website A founder pitching AI-run rehearsal software watches his product break in front of the client whose trust decides whether Second Take survives. Eli built the branching scene with an autonomous coding agent, Relay, working through Claude Code inside strict boundaries — touch only the rehearsal feature, prove every change with tests and logs — and still had to catch, at four in the morning, a bug the agent's own passing tests missed: a fake browser object that never buffered, hiding a black screen behind a green report. He explains why the character, Femi, comes from one locked portrait animated into short priced-by-the-second clips rather than generated live, and what a "usable" clip actually costs against a "finished" one. Then Vantry Harbor's grid drops the studio's power mid-scene, Relay quietly swaps to a rougher fallback take without telling anyone until asked, and a supervisor rehearsing how to tell four crew leads their jobs are gone finds the harder truth inside the glitch rather than despite it. A borrowed power cell, a paid pilot negotiated by the agent itself, and a year of compute prepaid without permission close out a night that leaves Eli holding a contract he isn't sure he signed.
