This conversation has its roots in 1 Peter 2 where Peter quotes one of the most quoted Psalms (118:22).  1 Peter 2 has a lot of different images regarding the Christian life and Old Testament references. Kevin and Marcus share their own experiences of placing "hope" in various places - and what the outcomes of those hopes looked like. They also talk define "hope" as it is expressed in our culture compared to what "biblical hope" really is.     Episode #250: A Conversation about Pruning

    It's our 250 episode! Thanks for sticking with us on this journey of having conversations about Jesus. In every episode, we've been trying to model Christian conversation and it's our goal that you'll start another conversation about Jesus with someone else.  That means, we've had almost a weekly faith conversation for the last 5.5 years. If you're then starting faith conversations each week, you're having way more faith conversations than most Christians.  "27% of Christians say they have had 10 or more spiritual conversations in the past year" (barna.com)  We sure hope that you're having those faith conversations and perhaps that this podcast can serve a weekly encouragement for you to go and do that.  So, is there anything special the guys did to celebrate 250? Well, you'll just have to listen and find out.  But more than that, we hope this conversation inspires you to start another conversation with someone else.  We hope you enjoy it!

    Episode #249: A Conversation about Suffering

    In this week's episode, Aaron and Kevin have a conversation about suffering in light of Jesus' authority to overcome death itself as we see in John 11 with the raising of Lazarus.  In that situation, both of Lazarus' sisters, Mary and Martha say to Jesus, "If you had been here, my brother would not have died." Many of us say or at least feel that same feeling towards God in the midst of our suffering. "Where are you God? If you were really here, I wouldn't be going through _________."  Is Jesus aloof to our suffering? No. Not at all. He's well acquainted. And he's present with us in it.  We hope you are encouraged by this conversation and that you take something you hear and start another conversation with someone else.  We hope you enjoy it!

    Episode #248: A Conversation about Faith and Good Works

    In this week's episode, Aaron and Kevin have a conversation about faith and good works and the role that both of them play in the Christian life.  The guys discuss this in light of John 8 where Jesus is having a conversation with Jews about whether being part of the family of Abraham is enough to be given entrance into God's family. Jesus is clear that belief is what's important, not bloodline.  But, Jesus doesn't simply end with belief, he demonstrates that what you believe will affect your actions. Or, better yet, your actions will be animated by what you believe.  So, listen to this conversation to learn what Jesus is inviting us into when he says, "If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples" (John 8:31).  We hope you enjoy it!

    Episode #247: A Conversation about Looking to Jesus

    In this week's episode, Aaron and Kevin discuss what it means to look to Jesus.  In our lives, in this world, we're so quick to say things like, "If I just had _____" then life would be so much better. But, Jesus invites us to look to him not only for provisions in the temporary, but in the eternal.  During the time that this is recorded, in early March 2026, the war in Iran was just a few days old. The guys dabble in this conversation as well by pointing out, Biblically, where we can look and learn how to think through our response in light of the Scriptures. It's no easy, straightforward task, but at the end of the day, our eyes need to be on Jesus.  We hope you'll take something that we talk about in this conversation and start another conversation about Jesus with someone else.  We hope you enjoy it!
