CwL Ep 9: Never Ending Story - A Conversation on the BS in our Head

If you've been hanging around these parts for a while, you'll know I'm obsessed with stories.

    The stories we tell ourselves.

They're right there under the surface. Those stories of your life, everything that you believe to be true. The stories informing everything that you do. The decisions you make, the interpretations that you make about the world, other people and why you do or don't make decisions.

These stories, they've literally got you. That term is important, because they've really got you by the balls. Not to be crass, but let's call a spade a spade.

My absolute mission is to wake everybody up to the fact that so much of what you're telling yourself about what's possible for you and who you are actually changes your life.

We also need to be wary of the stories OTHER people tell about us. For example... if you're a Capricorn, Year of the Dog, INFJ, Intuitive, Alchemist. People are constantly trying to define us and we hear these things and that changes the way we look at ourselves.

So what can do about this?

    Key takeaways from this episode:

    • Unpacking what other people say about you (too loud/spoilt/domineering) and flipping the script.
    • The things we say to our children and how they take on those traits. For example 'I'm not good at following instructions.' when they've been told consistently how they're not good at following instructions.
    • Understanding that just because you've never done something before doesn't mean you can't do it.
    • We all 'brand' ourselves. What's your brand? What's the story about you that sell to other people when you meet them?
    • Just because you've embraced your chaotic/perfectionist/minimalist/ditzy existence doesn't mean you're married to it. You can change your habits.

It is possible to shift to these things. Maybe someone put their hand on your head when you were in school and called you an apple (or an orange or a banana) and ever since then, you've been an apple. And you don't have to be an apple. It's actually kind of random that you were chosen as an apple. And you've made being an apple a thing for your whole life.

It's fascinating when we drill down into this stuff. I'm encouraging you to have your wake up moment, so you can step forward into your personal power. And realise you don't have to be an apple.

You can be anything you want to be.

CwL Ep 8: A Conversation on the Bushfires and Small Steps

CwL Ep 8: A Conversation on the Bushfires and Small Steps

The arrival of 2020 has brought with it a bizarre energy here in Australia. With despair and heartache at the bushfire crisis to witnessing the strength of community and a coming together of our nation like never before.
In this podcast I share about why practical actions in our individual lives can make a really big difference when we feel helpless in the face of a national and global crisis.
I talk about how disengaged I had become over the past five years from current affairs and issues outside the scope of my family, business and interests. And what I'm listening to daily to get a quick and comprehensive low-down!
I also reveal how, as a business, myself and the team will be donating every dollar made from the Small Steps Membership in January to the Bushfire Appeal and welcoming new members in so they can empower themselves with tools to reduce their footprint via the food they eat. Details here: https://smallstepsliving.com/ssl
This conversation is an honest reflection on how impacted I have been by the bushfires and how I plan to play my part in helping.
(You'll also hear about the TV show I created back in 2007 - which was a little ahead of it's time...!)

CwL Ep 7: Your Intuitive Gift - A conversation with Emily Aarons

CwL Ep 7: Your Intuitive Gift - A conversation with Emily Aarons

When I asked my friend Emily Aarons for a Conversation on Intuition, I had no idea we'd end up where we did!

This is the best part about being in Conversation and just letting things roll.

I mean, if you want to know what it takes for a soul to evolve, you might want to listen to Emily's theory. Or find out why there is never a bad or wrong move you can make in your life - you are never 'off your path'..

And did you know there's four main ways we receive messages (or nudges) from our intuition? I had no idea and could very easily pick which ones did and didn't relate to me.

I also love the crazy simple advice she gave about how to build your intuition muscle, and not only that - start trusting it.

Honestly, get into this episode even if you're not on a spiritual path of any kind. I just adore listening to women share their truth, as it helps me find my own.

CwL Ep 6: The Shake-Down Year - A conversation with Lisa Carpenter

CwL Ep 6: The Shake-Down Year - A conversation with Lisa Carpenter

In this episode, I dive into conversation with my amazing friend Lisa Carpenter, reflecting on the epic and transformative year that was 2019. It has felt like about a decade, all rolled into one. So much growth through a total s**t storm.

Lisa Carpenter and I take this opportunity to banter, dissect, and attempt to pull out the biggest lessons so that you can learn from them too.

It's been a big one for me in a million ways and I want to take this moment to say thank you to you for being part of this community. Being in conversation with YOU is one of the most enjoyable and privileged aspects of my life.

I don't take your presence lightly and I hope that we can all rise into 2020 with peace, power and purpose.

I believe in you. I believe in the collective rising of women.

    Key takeaways:

    • The key to being okay is to really know and take responsibility for the fact that no one else can take care of you the way you can take care of yourself.
    • You can navigate the fine line of caring deeply whilst remaining unattached.
    • Trusting that things are going to work out better than you ever could have imagined is harder than living in your frustration and trying too hard.

CwL Ep 5: I'm Still Standing - A conversation on honouring rest

CwL Ep 5: I'm Still Standing - A conversation on honouring rest

Bringing this episode to life is Elton John's I'm Still Standing. It's obviously a timeless classic, but the meaning for me has changed over the years. I used to sing along and think "But how?? How am I still standing with all of this going on?" I relied on my high-functioning tendencies and my ability to 'push through' and thought that I was doing okay. Ummm... thanks, shingles, for letting me know that I definitely wasn't okay! So pushing through is not the message of this episode.

These days, I know why I'm still standing and it's because I prioritise rest. I've got space in my life to do nothing. And absolutely no guilt about that. How much space to rest, really rest, do you have in your life? What do you tell yourself about resting?

In this episode, I share three ways that I've incorporated more rest in order to still be standing. Plus, I've also got a stack of questions to help you try to break through that thought barrier of "but there just isn't enough time to rest."

As my mentor, James Wedmore says The Rest Is The Work!!

    Key takeaways

    • Sleep is essential to good health and happiness and the more consistently we get ourselves to bed, the more our bodies love it. For me and my circadian rhythm, bed in the 9s is what feels good so I can be up and energised around 5 or 5:30 am. Have you figured out what bedtime feels good for you and your body?

    • When you strip away all the activities and commitments and make real space to do less, you create an opportunity to consciously build back in the things that feel good, the things that don't disrupt the level of peace and rest you've achieved in your house.

    • You don't have to go to a meditation retreat to get the benefits of rest. Creativity and inspiration might be heightened when in holiday mode, but who says that has to stop when you get back home? If you enjoy that feeling and want it in your everyday life, you've got to get responsible for bringing it in.

CwL Ep 4: We Belong - A conversation on love

CwL Ep 4: We Belong - A conversation on love

    Welcome to a new conversation.

I took a deep, steadying breath as I pressed record. This a conversation that bears witness to the love I shared with my husband, partner, friend and co-parent, Nick. It's an exploration of how our relationship changed, how two people in love courageously decided to separate, the grief I experienced over the evolution of my marriage, and the loneliness we can feel when we know our relationship isn't healthy.

This was painful for me to share - that'll be obvious from all the crying. I'm sorry if it's awkward to listen to in parts. But I know in my heart that there will be women out there who need to hear it. This is for the woman who feels she can do something to make it better for her partner, who longs for it to be better. You are not alone. You are brave and you can choose bravely what you need for your life.

Bursting Show with Motivation and Inspiration

Absolutely awesome Podcast! Lisa delivers such real and heart opening advice along with her inspirational guests who give you a new perspective. A mini episode I expanded with was about Love vs Fear. My take home nuggets were: " As Oprah says, "It all comes down to love and fear", keep it simple, Elizabeth Gilbert's book Big Magic :fear will always be there, we are programed to recognize scary situations, need it to keep you safe, but it can take over and not take you very far, thank the fear and have it go to back seat, don't push it away just go to back seat, tell the Universe, 'Hey universe this is what I want, don't know how it will happen, " let it go. Fear can be disguised as practicality . It all comes down to forgiveness and self love . " And so it is!

Dragon cube ,

so much FUN
