I’ve often had conversations with people that include phrases “if you don’t like something stop listening”… This troubadour episode had me following my own advice. I stopped listening twice. Knowing i was going to share an opinion I wanted it to be educated so I kept listening through the end. The Host shares his” Don’t like the setlist, don’t like the arrangement, don’t like the commentary during the interludes “attitude and keeps feeling underwhelmed. They’re artists.. not jukeboxes. You’ve seen 50 shows but seem surprised by this. I’ve seen maybe 10 and I know this going in. First show was Soundstage taping in 2008. They played an entire album that I had purchased the day before and didn’t love yet (it’s now my favorite). That night taught me that they aren’t a jukebox. I aim for just right of center in front of Adam/Immy. I’m there to get lost in the artists’ efforts that night. They’re there to share what they’re enjoying playing that night. (butterfly is incredible btw) The BM EPwas designed as four songs meant to be played together. The best songs in a setlist are the songs a band wants to play… not the obligatory songs people think are the singles. Do you want to go on a date with a person who is doing what is expected…. or a person who wants to be there? My favorite song to hear is the one they WANTED to play. This podcast genuinely complains that they phoned it in…. while sharing their wishes that the band had phoned it in with an as-expected list. Just before expecting them to phone it in and adding commentary that you’d made the decision to never buy their tickets again… you then comment that you’re anticipating Adam’s decline in health. I genuinely hope this disdain in your perception… is limited to this avenue of your life and not imparted on those that are changed by your impression. Good luck. Regarding the podcast production value… audio is ok. Audio between guest and host is wider than necessary. Intro/Outro is unrecognizable and has no added value. I was excited to hear a podcast dedicated to this band had multiple episodes.. this episode had me cringing after the transition from “judgment of” to “pity for” the host.
