Chronic Pain Warrior: A Young Man's Life Completely Altered By A Single Injury

Send us Fan Mail Today, I sit down with Davis Bain, the author of Chronic Pain Warrior, to discuss his life-changing journey through post-concussion syndrome, chronic pain, faith, and rebuilding after loss. Mr. Bain shares how one unexpected hit to the head during Air Force ROTC physical training changed the course of his future, ending his expected path toward a Space Force commission and forcing him to confront a new reality of brain fog, migraines, light sensitivity, depression, and daily physical limitations. In this episode, Mr. Bain explains what it is like to live with post-concussion syndrome after a traumatic brain injury, including the frustration of being told by doctors to “give it more time” while his symptoms continued to worsen. We discuss the grief of losing a planned career, the isolation that can come with chronic illness, and the mental health challenges that many people face when their body no longer allows them to live the life they once expected. Mr. Bain also shares how his Christian faith was challenged by suffering, especially when well-meaning people offered poor theology around healing, pain, and God’s purpose. He talks about reading Scripture from Genesis to Revelation, wrestling with the sovereignty of God, and learning that God can use suffering without abandoning the person who suffers. Together, we discuss why the church must become better at weeping with those who weep instead of rushing to fix, correct, or minimize their pain. We also highlight Mr. Bain’s book, Chronic Pain Warrior, which is written for people living with chronic pain, traumatic brain injuries, mental health struggles, and the friends and family members who want to support them well. https://www.chronicpainwarrior.com/ Website: https://coupleonukes.com Exodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/ Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Old Ranger, New Dad: Faith, Combat, Security, IVF, & Fatherhood

Send us Fan Mail Today, I sit down again with Seth Ryan, a Marine Corps veteran, former Army Ranger, law enforcement professional, private security contractor, podcast host, husband, and father. Mr. Ryan shares how his life has shifted since our previous conversation, including his rebrand into Old Ranger, New Dad, his focus on mentoring young men, and his continuing passion for school safety, security awareness, and crime prevention through environmental design.  In this episode, Mr. Ryan discusses his background in the Marine Corps, the 75th Ranger Regiment, law enforcement, private contracting, and serving in Baghdad during the COVID-era lockdowns. We also talk about his previous School to Embassy Project, why conversations about school shootings and security can be difficult to host online, and how censorship, demonetization, and algorithm suppression can affect creators who are trying to discuss prevention, safety, and public protection.  Mr. Ryan also opens up about fatherhood, IVF, his wife Malyri Ryan’s medical emergency, the loss of embryos, and their ongoing journey toward growing their family through a gestational carrier. We discuss how becoming a father later in life has shaped his perspective, how faith has helped him and Mrs. Ryan endure hardship, and why marriage, parenting, and purpose require more than personal strength alone.  Throughout the conversation, I also share my perspective on podcasting, rebranding, faith, young men, masculinity, discipline, relationships, public education, and the importance of surrounding yourself with people who are actually trying to grow. Veteran & Podcaster Louis Famiglietti On Serving 21 Years, Surviving Cancer, & Navigating Relationships

Send us Fan Mail Today, I sit down with Louis Famiglietti, a retired Air Force veteran, podcaster, cancer survivor, and former aircraft weapons systems specialist. Mr. Famiglietti shares why he joined the Air Force after realizing college was not the right path for him, how a recruiter’s F-16 display pulled him toward aircraft work, and what led him into a 21-year military career built around aviation, weapons systems, and service. In this episode, Mr. Famiglietti walks through assignments in Okinawa, Missouri, Germany, Korea, Las Vegas, and beyond. We discuss military culture, drinking culture, station life, leadership, divorce, fatherhood, long-distance parenting, and the challenge of building a meaningful life while serving in demanding military environments. I also bring in my own perspective from the Navy, nuclear training pipeline, Japan, command climate, recruiting experiences, and the way service members often miss the deeper cultural opportunities around them because they get trapped in the drinking-and-partying cycle. Mr. Famiglietti also shares the difficult ending of his Air Force career, including the loss of a close friend, intense leadership pressure, medical struggles, and being diagnosed with stage II colon cancer while stationed in Korea. He explains how cancer, recovery, and retirement reshaped his future, eventually leading him into civilian aerospace work with Pratt & Whitney before realizing that financial success alone was not enough to fulfill his next mission. We also talk about Military Creator Con, podcasting, entrepreneurship, distilleries, whiskey, masculinity, fatherhood, and the importance of using media to help people instead of simply chasing numbers. Mr. Famiglietti’s next chapter centers on storytelling, American spirits, veteran connection, and finding purpose after military service, making this episode a powerful conversation for veterans, military families, podcasters, entrepreneurs, and anyone rebuilding after hardship. https://www.linkedin.com/in/louiswfamiglietti/?lipi=urn%3Ali%3Apage%3Ad_flagship3_profile_view_base_contact_details%3BzAyWbnykSFeXJFvFbpd40w%3D%3D Website: https://coupleonukes.com Exodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/ Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Answering The Hard Questions: Army Vet On Poverty, Blackmail, & Suicidal Ideation

Send us Fan Mail Today, I sit down with Devin Fish, an Army veteran and author of Answering The Hard Questions: Let It Be The End Of The Chapter, Not The End Of The Book. Mr. Fish shares his journey from growing up in poverty in Rockford, Illinois, moving repeatedly throughout childhood, and dealing with instability, family addiction, bullying, isolation, and rejection before joining the military. In this episode, Mr. Fish walks through the painful experiences that shaped his early life, including his father’s drug and alcohol-related breakdown, his mother’s addiction struggles, and the devastating moment he had to face her death shortly after entering his first Army assignment. We also discuss how unresolved trauma, loneliness, and self-hatred can push people into dangerous cycles, including dating app addiction, blackmail, scams, sexual shame, and suicidal ideation. Mr. Fish also explains how seeking help through military counseling and hospitalization became a turning point in his life. We discuss the importance of mindset, resilience, suicide prevention, and how a person’s darkest chapter does not have to become the end of their story. His path eventually led him to become an Army career counselor, turn his pain into a presentation for soldiers, and later transform that message into a published book. https://a.co/d/028ZBmgD Website: https://coupleonukes.com Exodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/ Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Jason Cavness: From Army Officer To Tech Connector & Long-Form Podcaster

Send us Fan Mail Today, I sit down with Jason Cavness, a retired U.S. Army officer, entrepreneur, speaker, and host of The Jason Cavness Experience. Mr. Cavness shares his journey from enlisting in the Army to becoming an officer, building a long military career, and eventually moving into entrepreneurship, podcasting, tech startups, deep tech, AI, robotics, and international business connections. In this episode, Mr. Cavness and I discuss military leadership, command climate, retention, toxic leadership, family sacrifice, and the reality of maintaining identity while serving for decades. Mr. Cavness shares stories from his time stationed around the world, including Germany, Italy, Korea, and Vietnam, while also explaining what good leadership looks like when leaders truly care about their people. We also dive into podcasting, long-form conversations, creator growth, social media, monetization, and why deeper interviews can reveal more humanity than short-form content alone. Mr. Cavness explains how his podcast evolved over time, what he has learned from interviewing people across industries, and why in-person podcasting has become a major part of his brand. This conversation also explores the changing future of technology, including AI, robotics, software development, Vietnam’s growing tech scene, and the importance of adapting instead of fearing innovation. Mr. Cavness closes with a powerful reminder about self-limiting beliefs, starting before you feel ready, meeting new people, traveling, trying new things, and choosing to believe in yourself even when doubt tries to take over.  Along the way, we also get into some K-Pop, bourbon, wine, and whiskey! https://www.linkedin.com/in/jasoncavness/ Website: https://coupleonukes.com Exodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/ Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Duel Celebrations: 3 Years Out Of The Military & The Start Of Season 10!

Send us Fan Mail Today, I open Season 10 of Couple O’ Nukes with a solo episode reflecting on three years since leaving the military, crossing 300 episodes, and building a self-improvement podcast rooted in faith, mental health, suicide prevention, addiction recovery, military life, and real conversations. I look back on the transition from Navy nuclear operator to podcaster, speaker, comedian, preacher, author, and entrepreneur while discussing how unexpected opportunities can grow from a single conversation. In this episode, I talk about the instability, movement, and personal growth that have shaped the past three years, including multiple moves, changing career paths, civilian work, conference travel, and the behind-the-scenes reality of building a podcast alone. I also discuss how Couple O’ Nukes evolved from a comedy-focused hobby into a mission-driven platform for veterans, young adults, creators, families, and people rebuilding after trauma. I also reflect on the hard parts of entrepreneurship, including loneliness, burnout, unrealistic expectations, mental health struggles, and the pressure to constantly produce more. Through that, I talk about learning to focus less on numbers and more on impact, consistency, quality, and the lives changed through honest conversations. As Season 10 begins, I discuss the future of the podcast, upcoming episodes, speaking opportunities, faith-based content, comedy, writing, and continued community building. This episode is about military transition, creator growth, faith, purpose, and the reminder that one conversation can become a mission larger than anything you originally planned. A Mother's Journey Of Pregnancy Hardships, Near Death Experiences, & Entrepreneurism

Send us Fan Mail Today, I sit down with Malyri Ryan, a Marine Corps veteran, former diesel mechanic, Christian mother, and modest fashion creator known online as Cheap Chic Finds. In this episode, Ms. Ryan shares her journey from joining the Marine Corps after high school, deploying to Iraq in 2009, working around construction equipment and military vehicles, and learning how to excel in a male-dominated environment while staying grounded in her faith and identity. Ms. Ryan and I also discuss her long road to motherhood, including infertility, IVF, pregnancy, miscarriage, and the emotional weight of trying to conceive while trusting God’s timing. She opens up about the joy of becoming a mother, the heartbreak of losing a child, and the medical emergency that nearly took her life after she began hemorrhaging and ultimately had to undergo a hysterectomy. This conversation touches on grief, motherhood, Christian faith, pregnancy loss, and the difficult questions many families face when walking through infertility and reproductive hardship. We also talk about the moral and spiritual complexity of IVF from a Christian perspective, the loneliness many women experience while trying to become mothers, and the hope Ms. Ryan continues to hold onto as her family explores surrogacy for their remaining embryos. Throughout the conversation, I connect her story to themes of faith, trauma, military mental health, and the biblical example of Hannah, showing how deeply motherhood, suffering, prayer, and trust in God can intersect. Later in the episode, Ms. Ryan shares how she became a modest fashion influencer by helping women find affordable, cute, and conservative clothing through Walmart, Target, and budget-friendly shopping. We discuss online criticism, spiritual warfare, Christian content creation, modesty, social media pressure, and how creators can keep shining their light even when negative comments try to silence them. This episode is a powerful conversation about surviving hardship, trusting God, honoring motherhood, and using your story to encourage others. https://www.cheapchicfinds.com/ https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/combat-veteran-exposes-the-truth-about-school/id1657865479?i=1000701429695 Website: https://coupleonukes.com Exodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/ Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? God Doesn't Relapse: Addiction Recovery, Enablement, Boundaries, Service, & Faith

Send us Fan Mail Today, I sit down with Matt Grace, author of God Doesn’t Relapse, for a powerful conversation on addiction recovery, faith, family boundaries, and the spiritual transformation that helped him rebuild his life. Mr. Grace shares his story of becoming addicted at a young age, moving from Ritalin to crystal meth, facing arrests, overdoses, broken relationships, and eventually surrendering to God after years of addiction. In this episode, Mr. Grace explains why addiction does not only affect the addict—it affects the entire family system. We discuss enablement, tough love, emotional hostage-taking, and why parents sometimes “love their kids to death” by preventing them from facing consequences. I also share from my own experience as the son of addiction, including what it means to forgive, protect, set boundaries, and still hope for someone’s recovery without enabling destructive behavior. Mr. Grace also opens up about his work in addiction recovery, his experience helping families, and why he wrote God Doesn’t Relapse as both a memoir and a resource for families dealing with alcoholism, drug addiction, failure to launch, and broken family dynamics. We talk about the importance of service, volunteer work, accountability, and learning how to stop living as a victim and start living as a survivor. This conversation also addresses faith, masculinity, pornography, gambling, young men in crisis, and how society often distorts morality while normalizing destructive behaviors. Mr. Grace shares how prayer, service, and a relationship with God helped him find lasting sobriety, while I connect his story to biblical themes of redemption, purpose, spiritual discipline, and hope beyond addiction. Whether you are struggling with addiction, loving someone through addiction, recovering from family trauma, or searching for faith-based encouragement, this episode offers practical wisdom and spiritual insight. Mr. Grace’s story is a reminder that recovery is possible, boundaries are necessary, service changes lives, and no one is too far gone for redemption. https://mattgrace.com/ Website: https://coupleonukes.com Exodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/ Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes?
