How I Smuggled George Clooney into a War Zone; Ryan Boyette of To Move Mountains

How I Smuggled George Clooney into a War Zone; Ryan Boyette of To Move Mountains

Buckle up, this episode is wild! Our guest on this adventure is Ryan Boyette, a regular guy from Florida who was inspired to move to a war-torn region of Sudan during a mass genocide. He's being bombed, he's living through atrocities and instead of running back to America, he goes…I'm not going anywhere. This is my home. This is where I’m meant to serve.
Ryan built a network of citizen journalists called Nuba Reports to record and report on the brutality of the Sudanese regime in order to gain worldwide attention.
Hear how Ryan smuggled journalists and activists like Nicholas Kristof, Ann Curry and George Clooney into a dangerous region strictly forbidden to outside media. For those efforts and more, he was recognized with a Human Rights First Award.
With his Master’s Degree from Vanderbilt University in International Education Policy and Management, Ryan, alongside his wife Jazira founded and now run To Move Mountains, an organization that’s building schools, training teachers and creating unique educational opportunities for families in Sudan.

    Can Humans “Coexist”? A Jew, a Catholic, a Muslim, a Hindu, a Humanist, a Buddhist, and a Protestant walk into a podcast…

    Can Humans “Coexist”? A Jew, a Catholic, a Muslim, a Hindu, a Humanist, a Buddhist, and a Protestant walk into a podcast…

With all the division we see in the world, is coexistence even possible?
A recent article in Psychology Today on this topic pointed out how we are constantly reminded of our differences, but in reality we are all very much the same. We all want love, we all want purpose, we all want the best for our children, etc...

But the #1 thing we have in common? We want to belong.
To test this theory, we invited seven guests who each have different belief systems and grew up in different cultures to share their views on coexisting: Robert Scheer, Dr. Tom Catena, Mobolaji Olambiwonnu, Deepa Bharath, Roger Fishman, Chantal Prunier and Ryan Boyette. The results were profound, enlightening, and revealing. Many of us have not had an opportunity to speak with and get to know people whose thoughts, identities and views differ from our own--this episode is that kind of opportunity.

This Podcast IS Crazy Amazing

I don’t usually write reviews, but I have been listening to this podcast arguably since they started and wow, does it get better with each episode. I don’t personally watch the regular news (because it’s bad) but learning about people and ideas that actually positively impact the world, this is what I love. 10/10 would recommend to whoever is in the mood to learn something new and positive. Katrina and Jefferson you guys are the best! And I’ll have you guys playing on my long commutes for the foreseeable future that’s for sure!
