128: 2 Great Resources for an Encore Career

128: 2 Great Resources for an Encore Career

Today I’m going to look over two books that have been very helpful for me in my encore career. They are great resources for anyone considering an encore career. The books explore many of the things that go on when building a business in your retirement-age years.
The first book is Repurpose Your Career: A Practical Guide for the Second Half of Life by Marc Miller and Susan Lahey. I interviewed Marc on episode 111 of the podcast so you can hear more about him there. The second book is Boomer Reinvention: How to Create Your Dream Career over 50 by John Tarnoff.
Both these books have similar themes. They are aimed at people who are working on creating encore careers. However, they are also a little bit different as they have some different ways of approaching this topic.
All in all, both of these books have really helped me in my thinking. Obviously, I'm not the one who invented the idea of an encore career. However, I've been on the journey myself and, if you have any interest in creating an encore career, I recommend each of these books as valuable resources.
We'll dive deeper into these concepts:

Marc Miller’s career journey. The mindset change we must make in our encore careers. Why we need to be both mentors and mentees. How to build a new, diverse network in your encore career. Marc’s SMAC acronym. John Tarnoff’s background in entertainment. Why we need to redefine who we are, what we want to do, and why we want to do it. John’s five-step methodology. How to reconcile the weaknesses in your resume. What a SWOT analysis is and how to do one. How to present yourself as a thought leader. How to combat ageism with energy and enthusiasm. Thoughts, Dreams, and Plans for 2022

Thoughts, Dreams, and Plans for 2022

Last week, I reflected on some of the things that happened here on Creating Your Encore Career in 2021. I thanked many of the people who helped me make everything happen and looked back at the changes we made and our accomplishments over the past year.
Today, I discuss my intentions for 2022. Throughout the episode, I share some new things I want to implement here on the podcast in the new year. I also discuss some of my goals regarding my personal encore career.
Finally, in this episode I share some of the mindset goals I’m setting this year. Being on the encore career path myself, I've learned that mindset is what really holds us back. Our mindsets deserve more attention than we typically give them. So, today I’ll explain how I plan to make some personal mindset changes.
I hope you all enjoy this summary of where I want to go in 2022 and will join me as we move into the new year!
We'll dive deeper into these concepts:

New features I plan to add to the podcast in 2022. My framework for helping people develop encore careers. How I want to develop my coaching in the new year. My personal wellbeing goals for 2022. The importance of process. Now, for some action steps:

    2021 The Year in Review

    2021 The Year in Review

In July, I pivoted this podcast and renamed it “Creating Your Encore Career.” I had talked about that subject often in the last year but decided to do a full rebrand. Rather than work on manufacturing leadership, I wanted to work on helping people start Encore Careers.
While that happened, we had what they call the “Great Resignation.” This became another driving force for me to start talking about encore careers. I knew that there were a lot of people who were my age or even younger who were retiring but still wanted to participate in the world of work and get paid for it. They just didn't know how.
I knew I could help these people because I’ve been on that same journey myself for over five years. However, I came to realize that this was not something I could do by myself in a vacuum.
So, in this episode, I spend some time reflecting on all of the people and groups I’ve had the chance to work with over the past year of Creating Your Encore Career. I also reflect on the year we’ve had and the things we’ve covered here on the podcast.
We'll dive deeper into these concepts:
All of the gratitude I have to give this year. Some podcast stats. What the Great Resignation is. The people and groups that have come alongside me in 2021. A recap on the research out there on encore careers. Why I refuse to retire. What a portfolio career is. Now, for some action steps:
