Creating for Yourself or the Audience?
Allen and Shane have a creative disagreement on what should be considered art. Does there need to be an audience in mind, or is creating for yourself enough? When is it important to bring in audience feedback? And in the art process is it crucial to consider our current society standards or is it important to create art that looks forward?

Coffee with your smart friends
Allen and Shane don’t know it, but we’ve been having coffee together for the past few weeks. Ok, ok, technically I’m drinking coffee in pandemic solitude, while listening to their new podcast Creative Hotline and they may not be drinking anything at all.
But their first episodes take me back to the forever coffees in college or the hackathons of yesteryear(are those still a thing?), when the smartest people I knew would get lost in debate. Hours later, brain numb, I’d find myself walking down the street distracted by some idea raised but left unresolved in the hours prior. A handful of these conversations helped shape my thinking for decades to come.
The podcast is new and I don’t want to set too high a bar for these guys. But I’m looking forward to seeing what thoughts my future “coffees” with Shane and Allen might inspire.
Creative Boost!
Love listening to this podcast in the morning for a creative boost!
Great Conversation!!
I’m new to Allen’s stuff - a friend recommended his book, which I’m excited to read - but in the meantime I’ve been thoroughly enjoying this podcast! The topics are super relevant and the conversations around them are really thought-provoking. They do a great job of considering multiple angles of the question-at-hand, while giving some really sound advice. ..all while being fun to listen to and providing entertaining little inserts to break up the episode. Highly recommend!
