The missing person case of Ramiro “Kimberly” Avila Jr.

Ramiro  Avila Jr., a 32‑year‑old Hispanic transgender individual, was reported missing from Brownsville, Texas after last being seen in the early morning hours of May 13, 2017 in the downtown area near the 1200 block of East Washington Street. That night, at approximately 2:40 a.m., he was dropped off by his sister and never returned home. From that moment on, no confirmed sightings, phone activity, or contact with family occurred. At the time of his disappearance, Avila was described as 5’8″ to 6’0″ tall, weighing between 200 and 220 lb, with brown hair and brown eyes. He identified as either female or gender-fluid and commonly used the name Kimberly. The clothing he wore the night he disappeared included a black wig, a black short-sleeved dressy blouse, a black skirt, black fishnet stockings, stiletto heels, and gray contact lenses.Avila had worked for years as a sex worker in downtown Brownsville; those close to them noted that despite the risks of that profession, they consistently returned home at the end of each night. When Avila failed to do so on that May night and their phone fell silent, alarm quickly mounted and a missing report was filed with the Brownsville Police Department. The case is entered in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System under case number MP39128 and classified as an endangered missing person report. Investigators with the Brownsville Police continue to treat the case as active, although no conclusive evidence has emerged to suggest either foul play or accidental disappearance. In 2019, during a two‑year anniversary vigil for Kimberly, Cameron County District Attorney Luis Saenz reportedly stated he had “just interviewed a suspect who may have been responsible” for Avila’s death—but he did not provide follow‑up details or apologies for the impact that remark had on the family. Efforts to raise public awareness continued, with a combined reward of $10,000 offered by local organizations and law enforcement for any credible information.Despite the efforts of family, investigators, and an LGBTQ+ task force established in Brownsville in 2019 to address violence and discrimination against transgender and gender-fluid individuals, Avila’s whereabouts remain unknown over seven years later. A lingering call from 2019 by an unknown individual claiming to have information ended abruptly without disclosure, and no substantial leads have surfaced since.Avila’s family continues to hold vigils, raise awareness on social media, and urge the public for any tip or small detail that could help shed light on their loved one's fate. The search remains open, with hopes still alive for resolution and closure.

The Black Dahlia: Elizabeth Short, the Legend, and the Unsolved Truth

Elizabeth Short, known posthumously as the "Black Dahlia," was a 22-year-old aspiring actress who was brutally murdered on January 15, 1947, in Los Angeles, California. Her body was discovered by a local resident in a vacant lot near Leimert Park. The gruesome nature of the crime, including the fact that Short’s body had been cut in half and drained of blood, captivated the public's imagination and quickly became one of Los Angeles' most infamous cold cases. The media dubbed her "the Black Dahlia" due to her rumored gothic style of dark clothing and hair, and this moniker became much more widely known than her real name.Short’s body was mutilated in several ways: her face had been slashed from the corners of her mouth to her ears, creating what is often called a "Glasgow smile." She also bore cuts on various parts of her body, and her corpse appeared to have been washed clean by the perpetrator. The investigation revealed that her intestines had been neatly placed beneath her, and the entire crime scene appeared staged, with her body being posed in a dramatic manner. Despite a comprehensive investigation, during which hundreds of people were interviewed, the police were unable to identify the murderer, and the case eventually went cold.Over the years, there have been many suspects and theories about who might have killed Elizabeth Short. Some theories point to figures like Dr. George Hodel, whose son, a retired LAPD detective, has argued that his father was responsible for the murder. Another theory presented by author Piu Eatwell suggests that the crime was committed by Leslie Dillon, a mortician’s assistant, potentially at the behest of a nightclub owner whose advances Short had rejected. Despite these theories and even some confessions, no charges have ever been filed, and the true identity of the killer remains a mystery to this day. The enduring fascination with the case has made it a part of popular culture, inspiring books, films, and countless speculative accounts.

    Where is Alex Gumm?

In the winter of 2018, a young man named Male Alexander Gumm embarked on a journey from his home in North Berwick, Maine, to the lush landscapes of Kauai, Hawaii, in what he described as a quest for 'enlightenment.' This trip, however, would mark the beginning of a heart-wrenching mystery for his family and friends. In the time leading up to his departure, those close to Alexander noticed a significant change in his behavior. He grew distant from his social circles and even took a vow of silence with his parents. His interests had shifted towards spiritualism, religion, and natural healing, leading him to adopt a strict vegan diet and spend a great deal of his time in meditation. A talented musician and artist, Alexander had once dreamed of a professional career in music but began to reject the ideas of fame and fortune. On February 22, 2018, his parents drove him to a bus depot in Dover, New Hampshire, under the impression he was heading elsewhere. From there, he took a bus to Boston and boarded a flight to Kauai. Upon his arrival, he checked into the Kauai Beach House Hostel, where he stayed for two days. Records show he attempted to contact two taxi companies on February 22 and 23, though neither has a record of picking him up. The last known activity from his phone was a call made from the hostel on February 24, 2018. After that, all communication ceased. He left the hostel without a trace and has not been seen or heard from since. The investigation into Alexander's disappearance has been fraught with uncertainty and few solid leads. He had traveled to Hawaii with only cash, and the nearly $8,000 in his bank account has remained untouched. His family believes he may have sought out Buddhist or Hindu monks in his spiritual search. In late 2019, his friends traveled to Hawaii to search for him, uncovering potential sightings of him camping and possibly purchasing camping gear in the spring of that year. Many of his friends speculate that he may have ventured into the Kalalau Valley to live off the grid, a place known for attracting those seeking a reclusive lifestyle. The rugged and remote nature of Kauai's terrain has made search efforts incredibly challenging. While some theories point to the possibility of suicide, given some erratic behavior prior to his trip, his family holds out hope that he is still alive and will make contact when he is ready. The case of Male Alexander Gumm remains an open and perplexing mystery, a story of a young man who seemingly vanished while in search of something profound, leaving behind a trail of unanswered questions and a family waiting for any sign of his return. The Disappearance of Nathaniel Holmes

In the winter of 2017, a 17-year-old named Nathaniel Holmes vanished from Westminster, Colorado, leaving behind a trail of questions that remain unanswered. On the morning of December 19th, his mother dropped him off at Hidden Lake High School, an alternative school he had been attending for just five weeks. Nathaniel, who had previously been enrolled in an online high school program, was reportedly struggling and had made the switch to Hidden Lake in hopes of a better fit. The day before he disappeared, he had seemed lethargic to his father, admitting to taking a Xanax from a friend. This prompted the decision for him to spend the night at his mother's house so she could keep an eye on him. The following morning, after being dropped off at school, Nathaniel did not attend his classes. Instead, he went to the principal's office and urgently requested to speak with a friend, a request that was denied. Following this interaction, Nathaniel walked out of the school. After leaving the school grounds, Nathaniel made a phone call to his mother from a stranger's phone at a nearby park. He left her a voicemail stating that she did not need to pick him up from school as he had arranged a ride with a friend of his father's. This claim later proved to be untrue. His mother, feeling uneasy, still went to the school at the end of the day, but Nathaniel was nowhere to be found. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the words 'Mirage Recovery,' jeans, and black tennis shoes with white soles. He had a small scar above his belly button. He left behind all of his personal belongings, including his iPad, and did not have a phone or any money with him. His disappearance was considered out of character, as he was not known to even spend the night at friends' houses. The investigation into Nathaniel's disappearance has been fraught with challenges. The school reportedly had no surveillance cameras, and some sources indicate they were not fully cooperative with the investigation. While investigators believe Nathaniel may have left of his own accord, his family remains deeply concerned for his safety. There were reports that he had been visiting a homeless shelter prior to his disappearance, where some people believed he was homeless. Several months after he went missing, a friend of Nathaniel's reported a possible sighting of him entering the apartment of a known drug dealer, but this lead could not be verified. Despite the passage of time, the case remains unsolved. The Westminster Police Department continues to seek information regarding his whereabouts, and a reward has been offered for any information that could lead to his return. The circumstances surrounding Nathaniel's disappearance, from his state of mind in the days leading up to it to the mysterious phone call and unverified sighting, create a troubling and unresolved narrative.Script by Ben Jenum

Guthrie, the mother of "Today" show co-host Savannah Guthrie, was last seen at her home on the evening of January 31, 2026. Concerns were raised the following day when she failed to attend her regular church service, prompting family members to report her disappearance. Investigative documentary of Lacey Anderson, collaboration with TrueCrimeUnsolved

Lacey L. Anderson, a 19-year-old white female from Norfolk in Madison County, Nebraska, was last seen by her mother on August 23, 2009, at about 4 p.m. at their home on Syracuse Avenue. When she did not return, the Norfolk Police Division opened a missing-person investigation on August 26, drawing in the Madison County Sheriff’s Department and the Nebraska State Patrol. For weeks, tips were checked and leads were chased while family and local officers pressed for answers in a case that was quickly becoming a vigil of waiting.Nearly three months later, on November 14, 2009, her body was found in neighboring Pierce County.
