Critical Failure

LOVED the first arc. However, when 2 of the original players left and were replaced, I found the story became lacking. The story DOES have potential and is still pretty funny. I plan to keep listening to see if the show finds its groove!!

I tried... I really tried and I know this review can only be received poorly but despite the best intentions of the players and GM, this podcast is barely listenable. Before you ask, yes, I tried listening to several full episodes because I wanted to like it. Unfortunately, it never gets any better. The jokes are predictable and rarely land and the story is mediocre at best. I’m sorry but the show never finds it’s groove.

Admittedly I have never been a huge fan of Dungeons and Dragons, there always just felt like there was this barrier keeping me from becoming ensconced in that world. Thankfully, when Board with Friends recommended I give a listen to Critical Failure, I ignored this bias and gave it try. Boy am I glad that I did!!!! Not only is it entertaining but these guys are not the usually gatekeeping D&D aficionados I found myself dealing with whenever I tried to learn the game. Some of them are novices too and it makes the entire world of Dungeons and Dragons seem somehow more accessible to a noob like myself. As a bonus they are legitimately hilarious. The interplay shows that this is a group of individuals who are comfortable with one another and thus not afraid to make the jokes and jabs that so often force me to pause the show because of how hard I'm laughing and my desire not to miss a single word Finally some of the NPCs they have introduced have truly found a place in my heart, #ChugsForPresident2020. If they can keep up the consistency and quality they have delivered so far then Critical Failure won't just be one of my favorite new podcast of 2018 but of all time!!
