Welcome to Cross Border Interviews.  Our goal is to create meaningful municipal conversations that inform, connect, educate and strengthen communities from coast to coast to coast in Canada.  For this edition of Cross Border Interviews, we were honoured to be at the 51st Annual Association of Yukon Communities Convention, where we spoke with Village of Teslin Councillor Robert Hassard. Teslin is a small village located in the Yukon Territory at Mile 804 (Km. 1244) on the Alaska Highway.  During the Gold Rush of 1898, the Teslin campsite boomed briefly as a stopover on the Canadian route to the Klondike. For the first time, Teslin had permanent residents. The Hudson Bay Co. established a trading post for the villagers and those travelling the Klondike trail. By 1903, the Hudson Bay Co. post closed and Nisutlin Trading post was opened by Tom Smith and George Geddes. Teslin continued to grow with the arrival of the Northwest Mounted Police. Today, Teslin is home to approximately 450 people, These inhabitants enjoy a prosperous community with such facilities as an airport, museums, R.C.M Police Detachment, school, community centre, health unit, post office, motels, restaurants, and a general store.  The George Johnston Museum and Heritage Centre have wonderful displays that further detail the history of the people of Teslin. ------ Learn More About Today's Community:  https://www.teslin.ca/ ------ Support The Show Today: https://www.crossborderinterviews.ca/support-the-show Join The Show: https://www.crossborderinterviews.ca/be-part-of-the-show  ------ Listen To The Show:  Apple: https://apple.co/3XwwXIv Spotify: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/cross-border-interviews Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/crossborderinterviewswithchrisbrown ------ Follow Us On Social Media:  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/crossborderpodcast/ Threads: https://www.threads.net/@crossborderpodcast  Blusky: https://bsky.app/profile/crossbordernetwork.bsky.social Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CrossBorderInterviews/ Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/crossborderinterviews/  Website: https://www.crossborderinterviews.ca/ Cross Border Interview is Part of the Cross Border Network © 2026

Welcome to Cross Border Interviews.  Our goal is to create meaningful municipal conversations that inform, connect, educate and strengthen communities from coast to coast to coast in Canada.  For this edition of Cross Border Interviews, we were honoured to be at the 51st Annual Association of Yukon Communities Convention, where we spoke with Village of Carmacks Councillor Tara Wheeler. The Village of Carmacks, Yukon is located in a spectacular wilderness setting at the confluence of the Yukon and Nordenskiold rivers.  Considered by many to be 'the hub of the Yukon', it is situated 180 kilometres north of Whitehorse on the Klondike Highway, near its junction with the Robert Campbell Highway.   Thousands of years before the Klondike Gold Rush and the building of the Alaska and Klondike highways, the Carmacks area existed as a rest stop on a main trade route used by Indigenous People. These First Nations included coastal Tlingits, northern and interior Gwich’in and other Southern and Northern Tutchone groups.   Since becoming incorporated as a village November 1st, 1984, the Village of Carmacks now maintains a stable population of around 500 full-time residents. Many residents are employed by federal, territorial, First Nation and municipal governments. ------ Learn More About Today's Community:  https://carmacks.ca/ ------ Support The Show Today: https://www.crossborderinterviews.ca/support-the-show Join The Show: https://www.crossborderinterviews.ca/be-part-of-the-show  ------ Listen To The Show:  Apple: https://apple.co/3XwwXIv Spotify: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/cross-border-interviews Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/crossborderinterviewswithchrisbrown ------ Follow Us On Social Media:  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/crossborderpodcast/ Threads: https://www.threads.net/@crossborderpodcast  Blusky: https://bsky.app/profile/crossbordernetwork.bsky.social Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CrossBorderInterviews/ Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/crossborderinterviews/  Website: https://www.crossborderinterviews.ca/ Cross Border Interview is Part of the Cross Border Network © 2026
