    Ep59 - Rocky Horror + New Girl

    Ep59 - Rocky Horror + New Girl

Calling all True Americans: it's time to do the Time Warp (again)! Walt and Annie make a soft transition out of Halloween spookiness, by mashing up retro-sci-fi-gender-bending-crazytown The Rocky Horror Picture Show with delightfully cozy Friends-but-you-like-them sitcom New Girl. Meatloafs die and a classic Winston messaround goes awry, while we discuss sexual freedoms in the 1970s, what makes a truly good hang-out sitcom, and whether Tim Curry can do any wrong whatsoever. (Spoiler alert: he can't, but maybe his characters should get a refresher on consent.)

Ep58 - The Omen + What We Do in the Shadows

Happy Halloween, ghosts and ghouls! This year, we’re celebrating the spookiest of holidays with classic ‘70s horror-psychological thriller The Omen and contemporary vampire comedy gold What We Do in the Shadows. Join us as we talk about how Brian’s Song might be a horror movie, a Flintstones dinosaur undertaker, and why Damien running his mom off the balcony is totally an understandable mistake that could happen to any kid. Taika Waititi, if you’re listening, please be our friend.

    Ep57 - Macbeth + Rugrats

    Ep57 - Macbeth + Rugrats

Use your screwdriver to break out of your baby pen, but watch out for witches on the way, because this week we're crossing over Shakespearian tragedy Macbeth with classic Nicktoon Rugrats! Walt and Annie are both feeling a bit punchy as they cover the secret to a good Shakespeare play for middle schoolers, the ways that animation can be ugly and gorgeous all at once, and whether any of our listeners were cool in high school. Miraculously, no babies are harmed in the crossover, but we can't say the same for the ice cream truck.

Ep56 - Robin Hood Prince of Thieves + Mean Girls

Ep56 - Robin Hood Prince of Thieves + Mean Girls

Get in loser, we’re going to Sherwood! This week Walt and Annie are crossing over Ren Faire Adventuretime Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and high school classic Mean Girls! Walt kicks things off with a pun truly unappreciated in its time, we wonder about the similarities between Kevin Costner and Erren Sermerlsen, and we chat about the limits of both Tina Fey’s and oeuvre and KingRichard’s...everything. In the end we basically invent “Reign,” but just remember: everything we do, we do it for you.

100% Pure Enjoyment Start to Finish

The hosts are friends of friends, which is how I started listening. But I stuck around because each episode of this podcast is just so much fun. Annie and Walt create crossovers I would totally love to live in, and the recommendations at the end are why my to be read and to be watched lists will never be done. I highly recommend you check out this delightful duo and the worlds they create each episode.

Highly recommended

This podcast takes a very creative approach to reviewing different forms of pop culture. The mash-ups are clever and surprising in the best way (I mean...Jane Austen and Star Wars? YES), while the hosts are witty, charismatic, informated about the subjects they (hilariously) discuss, and yet totally relatable. Definitely worth a listen.

Mashup Magic

This is filling a need that I didn't even know I had! Looking forward to all future unlikely-looking but actually well-matched pairings!
