Last Words - Part 1 - Be Careful Who You Listen To

Last Words Part 1 Who are you listening to? God’s Word and Spirit must be the Truth and direction we listen to daily. Deuteronomy 1:19–21 The voice we trust will determine the path we take! When we listen, we are reminded -God has spoken -He has given us His promise -He has put our future in front of us, -He invites us to take possession of what He has provide -He says, don’t be afraid. When we fail to listen to the Lord… 1. We open ourselves to be led by opinions of others. Deuteronomy 1:22 Numbers 13:1–2 Seemingly contradict, but they don’t contradict the compliment. Give us a clearer understanding. God would us this to test the faithfulness of His people “God’s permissive will”—"God’s sovereign will” Sovereign will-- This is what God chooses to do because He is God. Permissive will-- This is what God permits, even though it may not reflect what He ideally desires for us. We don’t need a committee to affirm what God as already clearly said!! “Not every voice that sounds wise is speaking Truth.” --- A.W. Tozer 2. We open ourselves to be led by what “seems good to us”. Deuteronomy 1:23–25 Proverbs 14:12 Isaiah 55:8–9 Genesis 6:5 What are the consequences of not listening to God? 1. We miss seeing His reality in the moment. Deuteronomy 1:26 Numbers 13:27–28 Numbers 13:30–31 Seeing the same things and coming to two different conclusions. Our trust in God determines our perspective about our future. 2. Instead of giving God praise, we murmur in our tents. Deuteronomy 1:27–28 They grumbled privately before they rebelled publicly. What were they murmuring against God— -God hates us -God wants to destroy us -God doesn’t have a plan -We can’t do it 3. We forget the presence, provision, and faithfulness of the Lord. Deuteronomy 1:29–33 Moses reminds them: -God carried you. -God fought for you. -God went before you. -God provided for you. Their failure wasn’t in the lack of evidence, it was a lack of remembrance. “The greatest enemy of faith is forgetfulness.”
 — John Piper Forgetting what God has done, blinds us to what God is doing. Who are you listening to! Has God already spoken and you are waiting and listening for conformation to what He as already been clear in His WORD ON.
