    Tim Kerley discusses the art and science involved in breeding novel patio plants

    Tim never intended to be a plant breeder but was sucked in by the beauty of plants and the thrill of developing new varieties.  Working with a small team at the family business Kerley & Co, Tim develops new plants for well known series such as Petunia Tumbelina and Nemesia Melody.  Spare time is spent with the family in the garden testing plants for child/football tolerance.“Plant breeding in the ornamental sector at least is all about art first then science second – we are about breeding thing that are beautiful”

    Sparsholt College mark 125 years of horticultural education

    In this episode Neville Stein chats with students at Sparsholt College and hears how students planned their RHS Chelsea Flower Show Garden. The theme of the garden focused on celebrating 125 years of horticultural education in Hampshire. Listen to them discuss how they chose their plants, grew many of the plants displayed themselves and worked to build the display.
