The Morrigan - Is Your Belly Full of Blood? Then look for her other, gentler faces.

The Morrigan has come into my life this last year. Sightings of giant ravens, power that I mine in my anger and hurt, potent enough to scorch a path to healing. She is known to be difficult to work with, and I shouldn't say 'she' it is they. The Morrigan is a title. As I have been studying about this Irish goddess, I've learned The Morrigan is many in one, and probably one of the most misunderstood deities in history.  I am currently reading a book on The Morrigan titled, Priestess of the Morrigan by Stephanie Woodfield. I know I am fated to read this book because yesterday two things happened that showed up in the pages I would read in bed.  First, I dreamt of running up and down a spiral staircase for exercise, stopping only to refresh my water bottle with ice chips. And on page 75 Woodfield writes about working with The Morrigan, channeling them in a trance saying, "It is like walking down a long spiraling staircase, each step taking you down deeper and deeper. One cannot skip from the first step to the bottom landing.  Later in the day as I was running an errand, I was stopped at a traffic light. Above were hundreds of black birds. They were diving and swooping and circling as one mind, it seemed. Well, page 52 shares the dream one of her cohorts recorded, telling Stephanie, "Yes, you were singing. I told you, it's all sorts of strangeness. Macha was singing too. I wrote it down. You were singing about blackbirds–  "They will help you if you let them  A flock of blackbirds flying A cloak of feathers on you Bringing strength when times are trying" When I was buying this book in a Denver witch store, the cashier told me to be careful, that working with The Morrigan is no joke. That's the kind of response they illicit. Early pages of the book I'd purchased, Priestess of the Morrigan, resonated. Here's the passage; "There seems to be a general feeling that the Morrigan is angry all the time, always in battle fury mode. Always ready for blood. That this imagery must be the totality of her personality. I have been a priestess of the Morrigan for over 20 years now, and it still surprises me how often I come across these ideas, how superficially we view the gods. Still, after all this time, all we see is war in her, and even then, all we see is the romanticized ideal of war. Not the truth of it. Not the truth of her." (the author feels one of the faces of the Morrigan stir in her and speak, saying, "I am more...I am so much more...Show them." She writes, "When then reading is done, I still feel Badb's shadow upon me. Offerings are made at our makeshift hotel room altar next to the coffee maker, and I ask her why her children cannot see past this one face, one aspect of her. Badb speaks again:" "'If you want war, I will give it to you. If you wish to fight endlessly, I will give you what you want, because you have asked me. I will fill your belly so full of blood that you will beg to see my other faces. The lesson will be as easy or as difficult as you wish it. Some will destroy themselves and never see me fully. It speaks to what you are, not to what I am." Bezaliel - An Angel Shunned by Heaven AND Hell - The Shadow of God

In my exploration of angels, there is an angel that has avoided being named to me until now. What I've been finding out is that he is the most misunderstood, shunned creature of God out there. With nicknames like, "Shadow of God" is it any wonder why this angel is surrounded by controversy. Is he a fallen angel? Or one of the Seraphim order doing God's work in secret? Did he in fact build the Ark of the Covenant? Let's get into it.  Bezaliel (Bez-A-liel) 101 First off, the basics. I found this from Digital Bible, "Bezaliel, whose name is Hebrew in origin and means "Shadow of God," is often mentioned within esoteric and Jewish mystical traditions. If you've heard the phrase 'esoteric and mystical traditions' but couldn't define it, I found this. It is another way of saying 'mystery tradition' or the seeking of hidden or inner meaning.  Back to the angel, or Shadow of God, at hand. While some sources suggest that he is a fallen angel, others propose that Bezaliel is an archangel who belongs to the order of angels known as Seraphim, famous for their six wings and their close proximity to God.  In the grimoire "A Dictionary of Angels," writer Gustav Davidson includes Bezaliel as one of the many non-canonical angels. In some interpretations, Bezaliel is portrayed as an angel who fell from grace, although the specifics behind his fall are not elaborately explained.  Seeking more information, I found it on YouTube. Myth Cast from YouTube asks... What if there was an angel so mysterious, so powerful and so hidden...that even Heaven and Hell don't fully understand him? Meet Bezaliel - the 13th Watcher and Angel of Shadows.  In their short video linked in the show notes, they say that Bezaliel is mentioned as one of the Watchers, the 13th Watcher to be specific. Because of the nature of his work, he is not accepted in Heaven or Hell, and is begrudgingly envied by the other angels for the secret tasks he sets about doing for God, in the name of God.  Mentioned in the Book of Enoch, a book banned from the conventional bible, he is a figure of great mystery and intrigue. Controversial Bezaliel - Angel or Demon? Both? Neither? Shadow of God

Bezaliel In my exploration of angels, there is an angel that has avoided being named to me until now. More from Reddit: His features are shrouded in darkness by a cloak that he wears at all times, and no method thus far has been able to reveal his face. He carries a sword that no one has ever seen him unsheathe, and a book that no one else has ever read, neither of which can be opened by any person besides him. Neither of these were present at the time of his fall, which confuses angels and demons alike. Bezaliel can manipulate darkness, and he can make it tangible and very, very deadly. He can also summon shades and compel them to do his bidding. Lastly, he can teleport between areas of shadow, and become nearly invisible within them (though looking carefully enough will show that something is there). Bezaliel speaks tersely, using few words and short sentences - not because he's stupid, but because he dislikes wasting time. He will serve any demon or human who can offer him a fair deal, but he also has a talent for making the other person regret it somehow. Bezaliel's true goal is unclear to everyone else, as he has favored both Heaven and Hell at times. But it is clear that he has some plan, and that his actions have taken on a new urgency since the Hazbin Hotel opened, and IMP grew to a bustling business. CASCADIA: Lassen Volcanic National Park

I'm guessing if volcanoes of the Cascade Mountain Range was on Jeopardy, you'd be able to name Mount St. Helens, and maybe Mount Rainer or Hood. Most people, even Californians, don't know about Mount Lassen. In fact, as a longtime Washington and California girl myself, this one was new to me Until I dug deep into CASCADIA. Overview of Native American History and Oral Tradition about Mount Lassen Lassen Peak (the active heart of Lassen Volcanic National Park) was the meeting ground for four distinct Native American groups: the Atsugewi, Maidu, Yana, and Yahi. Their traditional stories and legends connect the volcano's dramatic thermal features and past eruptions to creation myths and powerful, living earth spirits. Here are some specific histories, passed down by oral traditions; The Mountain Maidu: Birthplace of the World Creation Site: For the Mountain Maidu, Mount Lassen was the reported site of the world's creation. Their legends tell of the World Maker creating the earth and the first people on the slopes of the snow-capped volcano. [1, 2]Population Spread: After creation, the first man and woman multiplied, and their descendants eventually populated the region, spreading out from the mountain toward the Sacramento Valley. [1]Modern Recognition: The Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center (meaning "Snow Mountain" in Mountain Maidu) honors this heritageThe Yana & Yahi: The Land of Wahkanopa A Sacred Counterpart: The Yana people referred to Mount Lassen as Wahkanopa, which they viewed as the offspring of Wahkalu (Mount Shasta). [1]Legends of Fire: Yana mythology contains extensive lore regarding the earth's heat and fire, often featuring Coyote, the Geese People, and the fiery action myths of a food-producing spirit woman who governed the abundance of the regionThe Atsugewi: Guardians of the Northern Slopes Spiritual Inhabitants: The Atsugewi—often known as the Hat Creek Indians—lived primarily in the valleys surrounding the north and northwest of the volcano. Their traditions suggest the mountain was inhabited by a powerful spirit, yet they hunted the peak freely. [1, 2, 3]Thermal Healing: Unlike more fearful volcanic myths, the Atsugewi considered the hot springs surrounding Lassen to be beneficial and medicinal, deeply woven into their ancient history of the land. The Yahi Foothill Dwellers: The Yahi occupied the rugged foothills of Mill Creek and southern Lassen. Their stories and knowledge of the rugged upper country were vital for survival, a resilience famously embodied by Ishi, who was the last known survivor of the Yahi. (JH) I will share Ishi's story later, I promise. Tragedy for many Native People including the Konkow Tribe Occasionally, the Konkow are referred to as the Northwestern Maidu. They lived along the Feather River and part of the Sacramento River in the area that is now Butte County. In 1863, the newly formed State of California forced 11 tribes including the Konkow on a 100-mile death march, known as California’s Trail of Tears, to the Round Valley Reservation. Of 461 Indians who set out under guard, only 277 completed the 14-day trek. Jesse's Happy Day (and spoiler alert if you haven't watched Widow's Bay yet!)

It felt like a friendship test. Jenn received a text from Jesse that told her she needed to watch Widow’s Bay. Like NOW.  Jenn explained that she didn’t have Apple TV and it had been a crappy day. She wanted to pour ten fingers worth of Japanese whiskey and disappear behind a screen of true crime. But Jesse persisted. Jenn. Jenn. Jenn. Jenn. You will love it. This show is a mix of spooky and funny. Trust me. Five minutes later Jenn had Apple TV loaded on the Roku and had opened the series page for this Emmy-nominated mega-hit. She went to the fridge and found this and that, making nachos out of leftovers, then poured a glass of red wine, because that’s what you drink with horror in the Riley family. She pressed play, then immediately had to pause it to read Jesse’s text, “Jenn. You better do this. I am gonna post about it on Substack. Don’t leave me hangin’.” Jenn sent a photo back of the nachos and wine, Cooper begging for her food, and in the background it was clear Episode One was queued up. The conversation in this mini-bonus-thingie is Jesse FINALLY getting Jenn’s opinion on the show. He couldn’t rest until he knew her initial impressions.  Send us Fan Mail If you are searching for a fresh, binge-able podcast, this might be the one for you!
