Episode 227: Crimes We’ve Committed So Far This Year- According to Our Kids (Parenting Chat)

Straight to jail. No trial. No appeals. Just vibes and a tiny jury made of sticky hands and big feelings. This week, Zee and Amy are back with a Parenting Chat, and we brought backup: our friend Sam (childcare director, mom of two, and certified survivor of toddler logic). Inspired by the “Am I the A*****e: Toddler Edition” creator, we’re confessing the crimes we’ve committed so far this year—as judged by our children, who are apparently running a full legal system out of spite and snack preferences. In this episode, we talk: 🍫 The unforgivable act of making homemade brownies (aka: crimes against processed food) 🥣 Snack hyperfixations, wrong brands, wrong bowls, wrong utensils, wrong… existence 🧊 Ice storm parenting choices that ruin everything (Sanchez Sunday edition) 🦷 The Tooth Fairy’s “business hours” and why she does not work nights (relatable) 🌡️ The thermostat wars: kids deserve bodily autonomy AND also want to be freezing + sweaty at the same time ❄️ The Wisconsin Crime: not taking your kids sledding because you also have feelings 👕 Making a toddler change clothes even though they are covered in food/snot/pee (how dare you) 🎮 Parenting while overstimulated: hiding devices “temporarily” (for weeks) 👀 Saying “not right now” and being charged with emotional neglect immediately Basically: if your kids have ever acted like you personally ruined their life by choosing the wrong spoon, welcome home. 💬 Like what you hear? Episode 226: A Sandy Death

A beach. A bluff. A brutal death. And a town that’s still too quiet. This week we’re digging into the devastating and still-unsolved murder of 15-year-old Terry Sutter, whose body was found on the shores of Lake Michigan in 1973—with a cause of death so bizarre, it’s hard to believe it’s real: massive sand inhalation. At first glance? A tragic drowning. After the autopsy? A violent, horrifying death—with a teaspoon of sand behind each eye and lungs full of it. This wasn’t an accident. This was deliberate. We’re walking through: 🏖️ A broken jurisdictional mess 🚗 Rumors of a sports car and a trunk slam 🍺 A secret party in the woods 🩸 Missing photos, a missing shoe, and a grave that was vandalized over and over again From whispers of police coverups to claims of powerful local families protecting their own, this case has "everybody knows but no one will say" energy—and we’ve got thoughts. A lot of them. 🎙️ Plus: Zee’s going full rage-mode on the missing evidence, intimidation tactics, and why this case doesn’t feel unsolved—it feels protected. 💬 Got a theory? We want to hear it. DM us on Instagram or send a 10–30 second voice note so we can feature you on an upcoming episode. 📬 Have a case suggestion? Voice note us that too. Episode 225: She Went In. She Never Came Out.

A locked lab. A missing bride-to-be. A keycard trail. And a case that shook Yale to its core. This week on Cursewords and Crayons: TRUE CRIME, we’re covering the murder of Annie Le—a brilliant Yale graduate student who vanished in broad daylight just days before her wedding… after walking into her research building and never walking back out. On the morning of September 8, 2009, Annie arrived on campus ready to work. Security footage shows her entering Yale’s Amistad Street research building shortly after 10 a.m. But there’s one chilling detail: 🎥 She was never seen leaving. As the investigation ramped up, the focus narrowed fast—because this wasn’t just any building. It was a high-security research facility with keycard access and heavy surveillance. And what police discovered inside was horrifying. 🔑 Keycard access meant the suspect pool was small 🧽 Evidence suggested someone tried to clean and hide what happened 👕 Clothing changes raised immediate alarms 🩸 Blood evidence was discovered inside the lab area 🐕 Cadaver dogs ultimately led investigators to Annie’s body This case is devastating not only because of what happened to Annie—but because of where it happened: in her workplace, in a controlled environment, surrounded by people doing “normal” things. And it’s a brutal reminder that sometimes danger doesn’t come from the shadows. It comes from the room next door. This episode dives into: 🔍 A high-security crime scene and the evidence trail 🏛️ The campus-wide search and how quickly the case turned 🧠 The terrifying reality of proximity—when the call is coming from inside the lab If you like cases with tight timelines, intense forensic detail, and that awful feeling of how did this happen here?! …this one will stick with you. 💬 Got a case suggestion? Episode 224: What happened to our dear Wanda Jean Mays?

A broken window. A bloody nightgown. A canoe. And 22 years of questions. This week on Cursewords and Crayons: TRUE CRIME, we’re covering the eerie and heartbreaking disappearance of Wanda Jean Mays—a case that starts with a quiet overnight visit to her aunt and uncle’s house and ends with more questions than answers. In May of 1986, Wanda—a bright, kind, 27-year-old secretary—vanished into the Alabama night after what her family described as an emotional episode. What followed was a trail of strange evidence: a locked bedroom, a shattered window, blood left behind, and an empty canoe floating in the lake. 🚪 No one heard the glass break 🛶 Her nightgown was found at the dock 🩸 Blood was found in a drifting canoe 🦴 And decades later, her remains were found near a cliff 1.8 miles away Her death was ruled accidental... but we’re not so sure. Was Wanda in the midst of a mental health crisis? Possibly. Was she alone that night? Debatable. Was this a tragic accident, or is there more to the story? We’ve got theories. This episode dives into: 🔍 Cold case mystery 🧠 Mental health, then vs. now 🚨 What we don’t talk about enough when it comes to women in crisis If you like Elisa Lam, locked-room mysteries, or shouting “BUT HOW?!”, this one’s for you. 💬 Got a case suggestion? Episode 222: What we won't be doing in 2026 (Parenting Chat)

New year, same chaos—but fewer parenting trends we hate. This week on Cursewords and Crayons, we're doing a Parenting Chat. We kick off 2026 by talking about what we’re absolutely not doing this year when it comes to parenting. No resolutions, no toxic positivity—just a firm line drawn in the glitter-covered sand. Because listen… we’ve tried. We’ve scrolled. We’ve watched the reels. And frankly, some things just aren’t making the cut this year. From ditching guilt to banning ourselves from overcommitting to every theme day and snack signup, this is a judgment-free (okay, maybe slightly judgey) space where we say NOPE to the nonsense and YES to keeping our sanity intact. 🚫 No to self-sacrifice as a parenting flex 🚫 No to morning routines that require a ring light 🚫 No to trying to “gentle” parent our way through a tantrum while our coffee is still in the microwave If you’re looking for real talk, lowered expectations, and two moms who are just trying to keep the tiny humans alive without losing their damn minds—this episode is for you. 💬 Like what you hear? Share it with a fellow parent, leave us a review, or yell “SAME” into the void—we’ll hear you. 🛍️ Grab your anti-perfection merch at www.cursewordsandcrayons.com 🛒 Browse our Amazon Storefront for practical parenting chaos tools we actually use. 👻 Follow the madness: Instagram: @cursewordsandcrayons Zee: @mrs.zette Amy: @amyrehsdupin

Episode 221: Christmas Romance Gone Wrong

This week on Cursewords and Crayons, we’re rounding out our festive episodes with a case that starts with a love affair and ends in a shallow grave: the heartbreaking murder of Sameena Imam. Sameena was a bright, successful woman looking forward to a fresh start—holiday snacks in hand, hotel booked, expecting a proposal and a new beginning. What she got instead was a calculated betrayal by the man she trusted…and his equally awful brother. 🚩 Workplace affair? Check. 🚩 Star Wars-coded murder messages? Double check. 🚩 Chloroform, a fake text alibi, and a body buried in an allotment? Tragically, yes. We’re walking through the full timeline of this awful case—from the missed red flags to the brothers’ deeply weird murder planning, and the investigators who thankfully got it done. 🎁 Show & Tell this week: Zee’s mini-obsessed with 3D mini scenes—tiny, cozy crafting magic that lives somewhere between diamond painting and scrapbooking. Bonus: they fit in planners AND make great gifts. Amy’s linking some favs in the Amazon storefront if you’re ready to start your new hyperfixation. So pour something warm, give your favorite people a big ol’ hug, and settle in for a case that’s infuriating, tragic, and weirdly festive in the worst possible way. 🕯️ As always, we center the victim—Sameena Imam deserved so much more than what she got. 💬 Like what you hear? Episode 220: Vanished in the Flames: The Sodder Children Mystery

Five children. One house fire. Zero answers. This week on Cursewords and Crayons, we’re diving into one of the most maddening and mysterious cases in true crime history: The Sodder Family Fire. It’s Christmas Eve, 1945. The Sodder family is fast asleep in their West Virginia home… and by morning, five of their ten children have vanished in a fire that leaves behind no remains, no explanation, and no closure. But this story isn’t just about a house fire—it’s about a family that refused to accept the official story, and a mystery that refuses to burn out. 🕵️‍♀️ We’ve got suspicious phone calls, missing ladders, weird insurance agents, and a side of Cold War tension. You know we’ve got theories—and some of them are WILD. So light up your (safe and contained) holiday lights, pour yourself something strong, and join us as we unravel a case that’s less “open and shut” and more “WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL.” 🎁 This one’s got big seasonal spook energy with a hefty dose of heartbreak—and yeah, Zee is definitely yelling into the void again. 💬 Like what you hear?
