I’m so grateful for everyone who kept supporting and wondering about me during this time—I’m still here, still standing, and ready to bring you powerful new stories and conversations.     Episode 10: Trauma-focused therapy for adults, when It’s Used?

    Anyone who has experienced a single or repeated experience of sexual, physical, or mental abuse or who has developed post-traumatic symptoms, depression, or anxiety as a result of the loss of a loved one or exposure to violence in the home or community can benefit from TF-CBT. If a child or adolescent also exhibits serious behavioral, substance-abuse, or suicidal-ideation problems, other forms of treatment, such as dialectical behavior therapy, may be more appropriate as an initial intervention and can be followed up with a trauma-sensitive approach.  WARNING: Look for a licensed mental health professional with specialized training and experience in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as further training and supervised experience in trauma-focused therapy.     Episode 9: Is pedophilia a sexual orientation or a mental disorder?

    Pedophilia can sometimes be a taboo topic but had become a topic of increased interest, awareness, and concern for both the medical community and the public at large. Increased media exposure, new sexual offender disclosure laws, websites that list the names and addresses of convicted sexual offenders, politicians taking a “get tough” stance on sexual offenders, and increased investigations of sexual acts with children have increased public awareness about pedophilia.

    Episode 8: Is the Nordic Model the best way to eradicate for good sex trafficking?

    The Nordic Model approach to prostitution, also known as The Sex Buyer Law, decriminalizes all those who are prostituted, provides support services to help them exit, and makes buying people for sex a criminal offence, in order to reduce the demand that drives sex trafficking. This approach has now been adopted in Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Northern Ireland, Canada and many other countries. So, does it works? What are the pros and cons of it?     Episode 5: Survivor Chris Bates.

    Chris is a sex trafficking ex-teen survivor. He shares with his story on how he was abused by many people until he finally decided it was enough. He not only to got out of the life he was living but became an inspiriration to others to follow his footsteps and helps victims and survivors become leaders too. He recently founded Overcome Exploitation, a grassroots effort to create a survivor-led fellowship centered on the experiences of male, trans and non-binary survivors of sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, labor exploitation, sex trafficking and labor trafficking.     Episode 4: Survivor Story, Ms Windie Lazenko part 2.

    Windie is one of the most prominent activists in the fight against sex trafficking in the country and sex child trafficking survivor. Her story begins with a troubled childhood in California. By her own account, she was sexually abused as a child and at age 13, she ran away, getting involved with people who trafficked her. What followed was a life of sexual exploitation that she narrates to us to help us understand that this can happen to anyone no matter your social or financial status or where you come from. Ms Lazenko has worked with federal prosecutors, the FBI and police, testified before state lawmakers and addressed church and school groups. She also has formed an advocacy-resource group, 4her North Dakota, reaching out to victimized women. 4her North Dakota is a ministry based in western North Dakota.
