StrongSide Episode 28: Team Haul Ass with Mike Sirois

The Mavericks decided to fire Jason Kidd. What now and why? The Dallas Cowboys are heading into voluntary OTAs. So, what’s still to-do and what’s worrying you the most? Which position groups could derail this season before it starts? The Rangers feel tethered to being one game under .500. It’s been a little bit since we talked about the local baseball team, so let’s do a Rangers vibe check. On the one hand, Texas is just one game out of the lead in the A.L. West. On the other, Corey Seager is now on the IL, Mackenzie Gore left his last start after an inning, and they may or may not be giving up on the idea of Kumar Rocker as a starting pitcher. So, how you feeling about this whole deal?Last week, you called your shot: you wanted to talk about Michigan’s Yaxel Lendeborg for our next prospect spotlight. So let’s dig into it. What makes you a big fan of this dude? Then we're joined by Mr. Golf Dr. Mike "The Sports Wizard" Sirois to talk about how to make the Byron Nelson a cornerstone event and why The Colonial rocks. Let's talk golf. —-------------------Like and subscribe to our channel if you enjoy StrongSide. If you'd like to read even more great journalism about Dallas sports then please consider subscribing to D Magazine at dmagazine.comSubscribe to the StrongSide newsletter for weekly updates on the sports happenings in Dallas https://www.dmagazine.com/site/newsletters/Studio: Haymaker Studio in FriscoProducer: Averie Luna,Matt Czizek and Julian DeanHosts: Mike Piellucci and Mike Marshall

StrongSide Episode 27: Dallas > Houston with Reggie Adetula

Well, the NBA draft lottery has come and gone and, surprise, the Mavericks had bad luck again! Seems they really did use up every bit of good juju last year getting Cooper Flagg. This time around, Dallas has the ninth pick, which is one spot lower than the projected lottery odds had them going in and outside of where we saw the sweet spot of this draft. Cool stuff. On Friday, Jim Nill addressed the media after the Stars’ playoff loss to the Wild, and he said two pretty interesting things about Jamie Benn. First, it’s up to him whether or not he wants to come back. Second, if he comes back, he’s staying the captain. Will he come back, and is it a good or bad thing for Dallas if he does? The full NFL schedule release goes down Thursday, but these being the Cowboys, we already got a sneak peek of three games on the schedule. They’ll open the season on Sunday night against the Giants, they’ll get Baltimore in Rio de Janeiro in Week 3, and then it’s Philadelphia on Thanksgiving. Which of these stand out to you the most? If you’ve been watching along with us for a while, you know that we did a whole lot of player spotlights leading up to the Cowboys’ draft. Well, it’s time to do the same thing with the Mavericks. You know the drill: every week, we’ll go deep dive a name who we think has a chance to be available when Dallas picks. Mike, start us off by telling us all about Mikel Brown. Then we're joined by Reggie Adetula of 610 Sports Radio in Houston to talk about the parallels between Dallas and Houston sports cultures.

StrongSide Episode 26: Rizz and Confidence with Christian Clark of The Athletic

When we recorded our last episode, we both had a feeling the Stars were in trouble. Turns out our worst fears were realized pretty quickly, as they got bounced in Game 6 for their earliest playoff exit since 2022. You buying this as a one-off or do you think this is a sign of a deeper issue that needs to get fixed? The Mavericks found their Nico replacement, and it’s a pretty impressive name. Masai Ujiri, formerly of the Toronto Raptors and Denver Nuggets, is your new president of basketball operations. You pleased with the hire? The Rangers have a new closer, and it’s someone who was contending for a spot in the rotation not too long ago. Jacob Latz is the guy in the ninth inning, and he’s been pretty damn impressive – zero runs, one base runner, three saves in as many opportunities. Is he the solution in the back of the bullpen? Then we're joined by Christian Clark of The Athletic to talk about the Mavs hiring of Masai Ujiri and what the future holds for Cooper Flagg.

StrongSide Episode 25: Investigate and Educate with Bryan Broaddus

Some things in life are not worth the wait. That Cowboys draft was. Now that we’re on the other side of this thing, and Caleb Downs is in our lives, are you as fired up about how well that went as I am?It wouldn’t be the Cowboys if something weird wasn’t going on, though, and something weird is definitely going on with George Pickens. Last week, the team announced he’s playing on the franchise tag this season. Then, the day of the draft, word got out he was going to sign the tender, which allow him to be traded immediately. That led to a lot of rumors which ultimately didn’t lead anywhere. Now the latest is that he hasn’t signed the tender after all. Totally normal stuff.Last week on this program, our pal Robert Tiffin made a prediction: whoever wins Game 5 of Stars-Wild wins the series. And, uh, I think a lot of people are hoping that Robert is wrong right about now, because Dallas went down 3-2 last night and things are not looking great. You have much optimism left in you? We live in a broken world. But sometimes, justice is served, and it was served Monday night when Cooper Flagg won Rookie of the Year over Kon Knueppel. It was the second-closest vote in the past 23 years, and I just have to say: 44 of you media members made votes that are not going to age well. Then we're joined by the GOAT of the media scouring business, Bryan Broaddus of 105.3 The Fan. We break down the Cowboys draft and how these players fit into Christian Parker's scheme. —-------------------Like and subscribe to our channel if you enjoy StrongSide. If you'd like to read even more great journalism about Dallas sports then please consider subscribing to D Magazine at dmagazine.comSubscribe to the StrongSide newsletter for weekly updates on the sports happenings in Dallas https://www.dmagazine.com/site/newsletters/Wardrobe provided by KingFisherStudio: Haymaker Studio in FriscoProducers: Averie Luna, Matt Czizek, and Julian DeanHosts: Mike Piellucci and Mike Marshall

StrongSide Episode 23: The Mindset is the Culture with Duke Manyweather

Six long, excruciating months later, we are finally free of this cursed Mavericks season. Dallas finishes the season 26-56, which tied the for seventh-worst record in the league. Cooper Flagg was awesome–maybe so awesome that the league gives him Rookie of the Year like they should. Other than that, Mike, what did we learn? Let’s talk about the other Dallas pro basketball team because there’s considerably more excitement there. The Wings got themselves a makeover! Arike Ogunbowale is back. Reigning co-defensive player of the year Alanna Smith is here on a three-year deal to shore up the middle. And, of course, Dallas drafted Azzi Fudd first overall in Monday’s WNBA Draft–yes, she’s Paige Bueckers’ something something, but the last time they shared a backcourt together, they won an NCAA title at UConn. What catches your eye most about this team heading into Bueckers’ second season? We started talking about this Stars-Wild series a week ago, and now it’s upon us. Stars-Wild kicks off this weekend in the American Airlines Center. Give me your series prediction. We’ve been doing a lot of Cowboys draft spotlighting these last couple of months, and with this coming up next week, it’s time we take things a bit broader. You all know the guys we like by now. Let’s ask ourselves a question we’ve asked a lot of our guests – who don’t we want the Cowboys to draft? Then we're joined by the greatest offensive line coach in the business, Duke Manyweather. We talk about this year's class, the Cowboys group that hopes to reach elite status, and the draft industrial complex. —-------------------Like and subscribe to our channel if you enjoy StrongSide. If you'd like to read even more great journalism about Dallas sports then please consider subscribing to D Magazine at dmagazine.comSubscribe to the StrongSide newsletter for weekly updates on the sports happenings in Dallas https://www.dmagazine.com/site/newsletters/Studio: Haymaker Studio in FriscoProducer: Matt Czizek and Averie LunaHosts: Mike Piellucci and Mike Marshall

StrongSide Episode 22: Reluctant Cowboys Fans Unite with David Helman

The NBA was having a nice little Rookie of the Year debate, and then Cooper Flagg up and decided to drop 96 points in two games. The only rookie to do that before him? Wilt Chamberlain. In so doing, Flagg also became the first teenager in history to have a 50-point game. Can we stop talking about Kon Knueppel now?The NHL regular season doesn’t end for a few more days, but we know the Stars’ first-round opponent. Get ready to learn Minnesota Wild, buddy! We’ll get one of our big hockey brains on the show sometime soon to dive into everything about this, but what are your first impressions of this matchup? The Rangers have cooled off a bit since we got hot and bothered about them last week. But that’s mostly fine because Jack Leiter hasn’t. Tell me why you’re so impressed by what you’re seeing so far. Only a couple of weeks left until the NFL Draft, which means only another couple of prospects left to spotlight. You called your shot last week – you want to talk about Clemson cornerback Avieon Terrell. So, why him? Then we're joined by David Helman of the Athletic to talk about the big dumb football, the '26 draft prospects, and where the future of football is headed. —-------------------Like and subscribe to our channel if you enjoy StrongSide. If you'd like to read even more great journalism about Dallas sports then please consider subscribing to D Magazine at dmagazine.comSubscribe to the StrongSide newsletter for weekly updates on the sports happenings in Dallas https://www.dmagazine.com/site/newsletters/Studio: Haymaker Studio in FriscoProducer: Matt Czizek and Julian DeanHosts: Mike Piellucci and Mike Marshall

StrongSide Episode 21: When Are We Gonna Move On? with Bobby Karalla

Machine was the optimistic one of the two of us about the 2026 Texas Rangers, and so far, so good. The Rangers are 4-1, but better still is how they’ve looked getting there. You have to encouraged right now, right?Mark Cuban, come do our podcast! Because it seems like every time the man does one, tea gets spilled. The latest and greatest happened this week on the Intersections podcast, which is hosted by former Dallas mayor Tom Leppert and Dallas businessman Kyle Waldrep. In there, Cuban said that he regrets selling the team to the Adelsons and that Jason Kidd helped order the Code Red to trade Luka Doncic. How many more bodies should we expect him to dig up?It’s Pie's turn to break down a Cowboys prospect. I got ambitious last week and threw out Rueben Bain’s name. This time, why don’t you have some fun of your own? Give us the name of a defensive guy higher up the board who would make a lot of sense for the Cowboys, even if they have to go up to get him. Last week, we did a mock draft. And one of the big lessons–aside from the fact that you can’t go with a non-Caleb Downs safety at 12 – is the Cowboys probably will need to trade up to get one of the elite defensive players. We’ve broken down two we really like–why don’t we run a scenario where the Cowboys trade up and see if they can land one of these dudes? Then we're joined by Bobby Karalla of DLLS Mavs/Head of Content for All-City. Bobby has been covering the Mavs for 13 years and is the best in the business at evaluating this franchise. Check out his work on the DLLS Mavs show.
