    This week on Dad Life, Nick and Sean dive into a topic every parent eventually faces: how to help your kids think about their future careers. Sean shares how his own path has been fairly linear, spending over 20 years working in the power industry, steadily building experience and progressing in one field. Nick’s journey, on the other hand, has been a little more varied, and he talks about the reasons behind the different turns his career has taken over the years. Together we reflect on what we’ve learned along the way and how we might pass that wisdom on to our kids, including ideas like: Work to be happy, not miserable — a job shouldn’t drain your life away Find something you enjoy or at least something that gives you purpose Don’t be afraid to make changes if a path isn’t working Skills are transferable — what you learn in one role can open doors elsewhere Careers take time — very few people figure it all out straight away It’s an honest chat about expectations, pressure, and the reality that most careers aren’t a straight line.
