BONUS: Excavated Landscapes & Finding My Creative Voice — My Story on Paint Rest Repeat Podcast

Send us Fan Mail Daring Creatively: Unfiltered is an Australian art podcast where Sydney-based contemporary artist Korynn Morrison picks up the phone, drops a surprise topic into the conversation, and hits record. This is a bonus episode and it's a little different. This time, I'm the one in the hot seat. I was recently a guest on Ros Gervay's Paint Rest Repeat Podcast, and the conversation got so honest and so real that I wanted to share it with you here on my own feed. Ros asked me about finding your unique art style and developing your creative voice, and I ended up sharing things I haven't really talked about publicly before. In this conversation we cover the story behind my excavated landscape paintings and how that process came to be. How identity, motherhood, postpartum depression and major life change shaped my work. Why finding your style as an artist is not something you can logic your way into, why it happens by making the work, staying open to experimentation and following what keeps calling you back, and how self-doubt, comparison and overthinking get in the way. If you are an artist trying to find your voice, or if you have ever wondered about the story behind my work and how I got here, this one is for you. You can find Ros Gervay and the Paint Rest Repeat Podcast on Apple Podcasts and all major platforms. Talya Brookman on Painting, Process & Backing Yourself

Send us Fan Mail Daring Creatively: Unfiltered is an Australian art podcast where Sydney-based contemporary artist Korynn Morrison picks up the phone, drops a surprise topic into the conversation, and hits record. In this episode Korynn calls British abstract painter Talya Brookman, based in Sydney. Raised between London, Los Angeles and Australia, Talya's practice is shaped by a lifelong negotiation between movement and stability, and a deep sensitivity to how place is internalised and carried. In this honest, unplanned conversation two artists talk about battling a painting mid-show and knowing when to stop, the solitude of studio life and how to balance it, going viral on Instagram and what that actually means for an artist, working across large scale abstract canvases in a small studio space, celebrating other artists without competition, the untethered feeling of growing up across multiple countries and how that shaped the work, and why backing yourself is the most important thing you can do. Talya's solo exhibition Inner Grounds is showing at CBD Gallery in Sydney from May 21st to June 13th, go and see it in person if you can. If you love art podcasts, conversations about the creative process, or the real behind the scenes life of a working Australian artist, this one is for you. Navigating the Art Market with Thomas Bucich

Send us Fan Mail Daring Creatively: Unfiltered is an Australian art podcast where Sydney-based contemporary artist Korynn Morrison picks up the phone, drops a surprise topic into the conversation, and hits record. In this episode Korynn calls Southern Highlands-based multi-disciplinary artist and former gallery director Thomas Bucich. The surprise topic: Navigating the Art Market. Thomas has sat on every side of the desk. As an artist making and selling his own work. As a design consultant buying art for high-end collectors. And as the director of Whitewall Art Projects, the Southern Highlands gallery he ran for six years.  In this honest, unplanned conversation two artists talk about what it really takes to build a gallery relationship, why there is no magic answer to getting into a good gallery, why the gallerist-artist relationship is exactly like dating, the love-hate process of editing a solo show, working across sculpture, drawing and painting without losing your creative voice, and finding a 20-year-old Icarus sketch that suddenly became relevant again. Thomas has a solo exhibition opening at Grainger Gallery Canberra from June 11th-28th 2026. If you love art podcasts, conversations about the real art world, or the behind-the-scenes life of a working Australian artist, this one is essential listening. Altars & Creative Rituals: A Conversation with Llewellyn Skye

Send us Fan Mail Daring Creatively: Unfiltered is an Australian art podcast where Sydney-based contemporary artist Korynn Morrison picks up the phone, drops a surprise topic into the conversation, and hits record. In this episode Korynn calls Gold Coast-based contemporary Australian artist Llewellyn Skye (known simply as Skye) mid-way through her current solo exhibition Blood, Milk and Honey at Curatorial+Co in Sydney. The surprise topic: Alters and Creative Rituals. Skye's studio is a living altar. Three walls dedicated to three energetic zones. Handmade ceramics, vintage dressers, natural-dyed fabric, inherited objects from the women in her matrilineal line, all of it feeding directly into one of the most spiritually charged and emotionally honest bodies of work she has ever made. In this unfiltered conversation two artists talk about the courage it takes to step into a new creative evolution publicly, the altars Skye built in her studio and the releasing ritual she opened her exhibition with, pulling tarot cards mid-process, the women who follow her around the studio, how an overseas residency cracked something open that years of back-to-back shows never could, the psychic moment Korynn had walking into the exhibition for the first time, and what your 96 year old self would tell you right now. This one will give you goosebumps.  New episodes drop whenever the call happens. How Life Informs Art with Artist Marisabel Gonzalez

Send us Fan Mail Daring Creatively: Unfiltered is an Australian art podcast where Sydney-based contemporary artist Korynn Morrison picks up the phone, drops a surprise word into the conversation, and hits record. In this episode Korynn calls Venezuelan-born Australian artist and medical medical professional Marisabel Gonzalez. The surprise topic is how your life informs your work. For Marisabel, that connection runs deeper than most. She spends her days reading the body in layers through ultrasound, and her nights building paintings in layers in an open-air treehouse studio in the bush. After a corneal transplant that literally changed the way she sees colour, and a studio move that pushed her practice into raw natural light, her work is undergoing its most significant evolution yet. In this honest, unplanned conversation two artists talk about painting outdoors, what eye surgery does to your relationship with colour, imposter syndrome before a big show, creating pigment from grape skins with a Hunter Valley winery, the fine line between commercial gallery direction and genuine artistic growth, and why sometimes the only way to save a painting is to completely destroy it first. If you love art podcasts, conversations about the creative process, or the real behind-the-scenes life of a working Australian artist, this one is for you.
