Neil Charles - Founder of Sequence Analytics

" I've had quite a lot of questions from people on how do I get started? I think you see quite a lot of people at the bottom of the ladder or the bottom of the 15 ladders going, I don't know which one to climb first. Don't treat it as a list of skills to learn, what do you want to achieve? You're progressing through  problems you want to solve at each stage and over years then accumulating this really, really good library of skills." - Neil Charles, founder of Sequence Analytics. Welcome to Data is Everywhere, a podcast where we’ll be looking at how data is used and impacts and shapes our lives. Our first guest is a great example of how curiosity within data can help drive learning. We spoke early in 2024 when Neil was in the beginning stages of building Sequence Analytics, we talk about his experiences in data in a variety of areas, from the day job using tools such as Marketing Mixed Modelling and what that entails to how he used his curiosity within data to be involved in areas such as football analytics and his use of R to create detailed vintage maps to sell on Etsy. Neil’s a great example of using your interests as a jumping off point for developing skills that as well as fun to do will have applications in the world of work as well and there’s some great advice within our chat for anyone looking to develop as an analyst.
