    Deep Dive: Is Learning a Consequence of Thinking?

    How important is mindset when developing cultures of thinking in classrooms? Is learning a consequence of thinking? Can using thinking routines in the classroom change teachers and student engagement? Dr Ron Ritchhart a Senior Research Associate and Principal Investigator at Harvard Project Zero where his work focuses on the development of school and classroom culture as prime vehicles for developing students as powerful thinkers and learners. Ron has written and co-written a number of books which focus on how teachers can create classrooms where thinking is valued, visible and actively promoted as part of the day to day experience of all group members. We also have Emma Webber an experienced educator and Deputy Principal who works in a school in the Southeast Region in Queensland, Australia. They will discuss these questions and more to uncover how learning is integral to learning.

Our guests this week are David a Primary School Principal, Jodie a Deputy Principal, Kate who is working as the Head of Curriculum and Lisa a teacher who is teaching a grade 5/6 class this year. They will be delving deeply into the area of curiosity.     Deep Dive: Have you got S.O.L.E?

    What is a Self-Organised Learning Environment? How has this pedagogical approach helped with teacher and student engagement? And is there a place for curiosity in our classrooms? And if so, how can this be achieved using SOLE a session? Our guests this week, Yvette and Kerrie are both experienced teachers who work in a primary school setting.  They will discuss their personal journey's into how using Self Organised Learning Environments in a classroom as a pedagogical approach has transformed their teaching and student engagement.  This approach was developed by 2022 Brock Prize winner Sugata Mitra, who is probably best known in the education community for developing the concept of self-organised learning environments following his ‘Hole in the Wall’ experiments in 1999, where he placed a computer in the wall of an Indian slum and observed that given the right circumstances, children could teach each other almost anything. Since that time, SOLE has become a part of mainstream education worldwide, increasing opportunities for thousands of people.  Yvette and Kerrie will also share with you, practical tips you can use in your classrooms to enhance student engagement and outcomes when using SOLE with students.
