    009: Season 2 Premiere & Self-Check-in, a Solo Episode with Kristen Yaney

Celebrate the premiere of Season Two of the Deeply Funny Podcast. We'll start by taking inventory of the past year, and celebrating the highlight reel of personal growth & development.

Ya'll it's been a hell of a year. From my apartment in New York City, to a life in Seattle, WA filled with community, connection, and lots of comedy, I really can't believe how I got here. We'll talk about the challenges, obstacles, and overcoming them, and the toolkit of getting over our egos and calling on our perseverance. This year has taught me a LOT about Collaborating, and Saying YES to myself. This year has been about finding a new way of being, navigating uncertainties in finances, deeply altering my relationship I have with self, and becoming a person who increasingly lives my values.

This season has some exciting new episode's I'm ready to drop as we head into Fall, and I can't wait to share with ya'll! Make sure to subscribe to the podcast so you don't miss an episode, and leave us a review so we can continue to grow the show, if you get something out of it.

Thank you for being here, and keeping on being the reason we're doing it. I love you. Take Care. -Kristen Yaney

008: Sucks About Your Brain Tumor with Shannon Taylor

008: Sucks About Your Brain Tumor with Shannon Taylor

In September of 2020, while on vacation, Shannon Taylor had a seizure. She was diagnosed with a large non-cancerous brain tumor on her brain stem that night. She spent the next two months awaiting a particularly invasive craniotomy. The tumor was rare, the surgical approach was rare, and the complications were rare. After losing her voice and the ability to speak, Shannon authored a book titled "Sucks About Your Brain Tumor".

In today's episode, Shannon tells her story and details what she learned during her two-year recovery, such as the love of community, how free bottles of water can magically show up at your house, how unprepared she was for the recovery process, and how - in the face of experts telling her otherwise - she was determined to get her voice back.

Please keep in mind that neither Shannon nor Kristen are neurologists, and this conversation does not attempt to give medical advice in any way; however, it is a compelling conversation on the value of sharing experiences, finding hope in community even in the face of medical crisis and chronic illness (for patients and for caretakers), and how we learn to integrate what happens to us until it becomes a part of our story, but not the whole plot. If you or someone you love is going through a crisis, we hope this conversation helps you to connect, and ultimately feel less alone.

To contact Shannon, please reach out at sucksaboutyourbraintumor@gmail.com.

Sacred connection through vulnerability

When you visit with Kristen Yaney, you immediately feel like you’ve found a long lost friend. She has a strong sense of self and her courageous vulnerability creates this wonderful feeling of deep connection. I felt loved and I felt like I belonged as Kristen shared her story. You will love her style of deep thoughts combined with her awesome sense of humor! Kristen is a rare individual and she embodies many of Brene Brown’s teachings, and this is one quote that describes Kristen and her amazing authenticity which truly feels sacred.
“True belonging is the spiritual practice of believing in and belonging to yourself so deeply that you can share your most authentic self with the world and find sacredness in both being a part of something and standing alone in the wilderness. True belonging doesn’t require you to change who you are; it requires you to be who you are. —Brene Brown.
You’ll love hearing Kristen on her podcast! xoxo
