Choosing Authenticity Over Other People’s Opinions

What does it really mean to live authentically—even when other people have something to say about it? On this episode of Depression Proof Your Life Live, Marian Mills sits down with Jeff Allin for a candid conversation about living life unapologetically, staying true to who you are, and refusing to let criticism or negative comments determine how you show up in the world. Jeff shares his perspective on authenticity, confidence, and navigating the opinions of others while continuing to live a life that feels true to him. Together, Marian and Jeff discuss: • What it means to live authentically and unapologetically • How to stay grounded when people criticize or misunderstand you • Handling negative comments without allowing them to define you • Building confidence in who you are • Why resilience sometimes means continuing to show up as yourself • Letting go of the need for everyone’s approval This conversation is a reminder that living authentically doesn’t mean everyone will understand you—and resilience can include learning not to hand other people the power to determine your worth. 🎧 Listen to Depression Proof Your Life Live on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. ▶️ Watch the full episode on YouTube. Beyond Crisis: Building a Culture of Support on Campus

What does it look like when a college campus makes mental wellness, connection, and support part of the student experience—not only during moments of crisis? In this episode of Depression Proof Your Life Live, Marian Mills sits down with Cyntina Bagley, Director of Virginia State University’s Office of Counseling & Accessibility for a conversation about the mental health and accessibility resources available to VSU students and the importance of creating an environment where students know they have somewhere to turn when they need support. Cyntina Bagley shares insight into the work of the Office of Counseling & Accessibility, the support available to students, and why awareness, connection, and early support matter throughout the college experience. The conversation also highlights VSU’s upcoming Suicide Prevention Walk on September 17—an opportunity for students, faculty, staff, and members of the community to come together, raise awareness, remember those whose lives have been impacted by suicide, and reinforce a powerful message: you matter, and you do not have to navigate difficult moments alone. Marian will join VSU as a guest speaker for the walk, sharing the mission behind Depression Proof Your Life and the importance of intentionally building everyday mental resilience. In this conversation:• Resources available through VSU’s Office of Counseling & Accessibility• Why students don’t have to wait for a crisis to seek support• The importance of connection and mental wellness on college campuses• What to expect from VSU’s Suicide Prevention Walk• How awareness and prevention can help create stronger, more supportive communities If this conversation encouraged you, follow Depression Proof Your Life Live, subscribe, and share this episode with a student, parent, educator, or someone who could benefit from knowing that support is available.
