what is a human?

Great podcast to leave you pondering that question days after finishing it. The twist/reveal was somewhat predictable but ultimately still very satisfying. The voice acting, music, and sound effects are top notch. It’s very easy to imagine the scenery and storyline. I really appreciate that the listener is dropped in mid-plot and that you have to use sounds as context for what is going on; the story is not hand-fed to the listener. Highly recommended.

Very good horror

People need to heed the content warnings. Harlan is an amazing horror writer. I think the most recent “Deviser” endeavor leans too much into suffering too soon. Malevolent had a good hook that brought the protagonist comfort in early on and that made it easier to listen to (and it repeats that pattern) — unless you are just going all out torture porn. I initially thought the that balance or comfort was supposed to be the “dog” role here. But it went so bad so soon, that it was hard for me (trigger warning for dog lovers.) The work continues to be solid, but I may not be able to finish — one can only be hopeless for so long:
