    Beds, trains, badgers and thespians

    Devon's getting around £6 million of new funding to support the county's homeless population, with a view to providing accommodation to all who need it by Christmas. Exeter MP Steve Race (Labour) says it's much-needed cash for a complex problem. Trains are on the mind of Rebecca Smith, the Conservative MP for South West Devon. She wants the government to get the Plymouth to Tavistock line back on track. A new Theatre Royal Plymouth co-production, Badgers, has been at the Edinburgh Fringe. We speak with playwright Malaika Kegode ahead of its run at the Drum Theatre. And a new book explores the rich history of Sidmouth's Manor Pavilion, unique in retaining its summer rep season.     An action packed edition of Devoncast this week.    We speak to Ben Stafford-Davies who is based in South Devon and helps men make friends and tackle loneliness. He gives insights around male loneliness.    Exeter based comedian Molly Kinsey is on the show and talks about a stroke she suffered when she was just 29 years old and how it led her down the road of comedy.    And it’s time to talk about Panto season here in Devon!   Sleeping Beauty is at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth and Devoncast speaks to some of its stars!    Josh Tate and Finn Aston present this edition.

    Devoncast - new Chiefs owners, climate forum disruption and Car Man in Plymouth

    Exeter Chiefs ended the season as Prem runners-up, with fans enjoying a day out at Twickenham, even if they didn’t enjoy the result. We hear from players and coach Rob Baxter, as well as talk to former club owner Tony Rowe. After 30 years at the helm, he’s staying on as chief executive as an American sports investment company takes over. Exeter University’s held a climate forum, attractive delegates and speakers of national and international renown. But activist group Extinction Rebellion took exception to one of the sponsors and staged a protest. Leading the group was a graduate student in global sustainability who tells us that previous action has led to change. Hit dance thriller Car Man from Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures company returns to the Theatre Royal Plymouth. We hear from a member of the backstage team who’s sprung from Devon to tour the country with the show. Plus Fairlynch Museum at Budleigh Salterton has honoured an Exeter archaeologist specialising in pre-historic marine life.

    Devoncast – Exeter Chiefs, AI, Race Across Devon, and bees save plastic

    On the week that Exeter Chiefs squeezed past Bath to reach the Prem final, we speak with coach Rob Baxter and flanker Tom Hooper ahead of the big game at Twickenham.   Devon’s businesses are powering ahead in the digital race, with innovative ideas to use AI.   Race Across Devon is coming up; a fundraiser with a difference for Devon Insight, the charity that supports people who are visually impaired.   And how Devon’s bees are contributing their talents to an innovative product that cuts the need for clingfilm.

    Devoncast - Living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease in Devon

    People living with inflammatory bowel disease are being encouraged to speak more openly about the condition as part of World IBD Day on 19th May 2026. More than half a million people in the UK are living with conditions including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Ulcerative colitis affects the large bowel, while Crohn’s disease can affect any part of the digestive tract. Symptoms can include pain, fatigue, diarrhoea and bleeding. Josh Tate caught up with three people from Devon, who are suffering from IBD.
