Daily Devotions: He Wants to Be With Us - February 8, 2026

Exodus 29:44–46 (NLT) “Yes, I will consecrate the Tabernacle and the altar, and I will consecrate Aaron and his sons to serve me as priests. Then I will live among the people of Israel and be their God. And they will know that I am the Lord their God. I am the one who brought them out of the land of Egypt so that I could live among them. I am the Lord their God.” In this Old Testament devotional from Exodus 29, we see a beautiful and consistent truth about God’s heart: God wants to be with His people. After consecrating the tabernacle, the altar, and the priests, the Lord makes His purpose unmistakably clear. He did not deliver Israel from Egypt only to give them laws or rituals. He brought them out so that He could live among them and be their God. From the Garden of Eden to the wilderness tabernacle and all the way to today, God’s desire has always been fellowship with people. This truth can be hard to grasp. Why would a holy God want to dwell with imperfect people? The answer is simple. Love. Just as love is the reason two people choose to be together, love is the reason God chooses to be with us. God’s presence among Israel was not accidental or temporary. It was intentional, relational, and rooted in His love. In the same way, God still desires to be with His people today. He has chosen to love us, and that love is the reason He draws near. ---- Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. Sumrall on Daily Devotions. Daily Devotions: Pastoral Prayer - February 7, 2026

Exodus 28:29 (NLT) “In this way, Aaron will carry the names of the tribes of Israel over his heart when he goes into the Holy Place. This will be a continual reminder that he represents the people when he comes before the Lord.” In this Old Testament devotional, Pastor David Sumrall points us to a powerful picture of leadership and prayer found in the priestly ministry of Aaron. God instructed that the names of the twelve tribes be carried over the priest’s heart as he entered the presence of the Lord. This was not symbolic decoration. It was a constant reminder that coming before God was never about self, but about representing the people. This passage teaches us that true pastoral and spiritual prayer has no room for selfishness. Whether as pastors, parents, group leaders, or servants in any role, entering God’s presence means carrying others on our hearts. Leadership before God is not about personal requests, platforms, or performance, but about standing in prayer for those entrusted to us. Even when other forms of ministry are limited, prayer remains the greatest work a leader can do. As Aaron bore the names of the people over his heart, so leaders today are called to bring the needs, burdens, and lives of others before the Father with faithfulness and love. ---- Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. Daily Devotions: Offerings - February 6, 2026

Exodus 25:1–2 (ESV) “The Lord said to Moses, ‘Speak to the people of Israel, that they take for me a contribution. From every man whose heart moves him you shall receive the contribution for me.’” In this Old Testament devotional, Pastor David Sumrall shows us the powerful truths found in these two simple verses about offerings and worship. God instructs Moses, as the spiritual leader, to tell the people to bring an offering. Giving does not begin with silence or assumption, but with clear spiritual leadership that communicates God’s instruction. The offering is to be brought to God, not to a person. Moses is the messenger, not the recipient. This reminds us that all giving is an act of worship directed to the Lord Himself. The offering is also described as something sacred, set apart for God’s purposes, not treated like an ordinary expense or obligation. Finally, God places a clear condition on giving. The contribution is to be accepted only from those whose hearts are moved to give. True offerings are never forced or pressured. They flow from willingness and desire, not compulsion. In this way, God teaches His people that generosity is deeply spiritual, voluntary, and rooted in worship. Through this passage, we are reminded that biblical giving is about obedience, reverence, and a heart that responds freely to God. ---- Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. Daily Devotions: Joshua’s Encounter With God Begins - February 5, 2026

Exodus 24:9–13 (ESV) “Then Moses and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up, and they saw the God of Israel. There was under his feet as it were a pavement of sapphire stone, like the very heaven for clearness. And he did not lay his hand on the chief men of the people of Israel; they beheld God, and ate and drank. The Lord said to Moses, ‘Come up to me on the mountain and wait there, that I may give you the tablets of stone, with the law and the commandment, which I have written for their instruction.’ So Moses rose with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up into the mountain of God.” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall draws our attention to Joshua’s first encounters with the presence of God. While many leaders were invited up the mountain, Joshua is quietly identified as the one who stayed close, walking with Moses and remaining near where God was working. Long before Joshua led the nation, his heart was being shaped by time spent in God’s presence rather than a desire for position. God prepares future leaders through proximity, patience, and hunger for His presence. ---- Discover fundamental truths and the power of Scripture with Pastor David E. Sumrall on Daily Devotions.
