Talented crew presents interesting ideas and crime cases. They do not force their personalities cuz they don’t have to cuz they got “It Factor.”

As a native Iowan and true crime junkie, I really wanted to love this podcast. The concept (and name) are phenomenal, and I love how they consult an investigator for his insight on each case at the end of each episode. This podcast has 5-star potential, but it just falls a little bit short. I can appreciate shedding some light on the old cases, but it seems like every single case is from the late 1800s or early 1900s. I find myself getting excited when a “recent” case is covered … even if being “recent” means it’s from the 1960s or 1970s. There are no shortage of unsolved homicides and/or missing people throughout Iowa in the past 30 years — as well as some very interesting solved cases in that same timeframe — that should at the very least be interspersed with these super-old cases no one has heard of and that likely won’t be solved due to lack of evidence, DNA, etc. A focus on the more recent (1990s to present!) cases could actually be beneficial and shed more light on cases that have the potential to be solved! Again, this podcast has good bones and a great concept. It just needs a refresh and a focus on cases from the late 20th and 21st century in addition the cases from the 1800s to keep listeners interested!

The hosts are pretty blah. Don’t bring any personality to the table and their research is pretty surface-level. Taps, their anonymous former police officer, is interesting, but the podcast as a whole still leaves much to be desired. Disappointing as I think these stories have more potential and I love anything Iowa-specific, but I definitely got bored listening.

I was really looking forward to this, as it has the potential to be something. It’s just 2 girls with a microphone. That’s pretty much it. No in depth research, at least it seems.. “have you been to this county?” Every episode, gets old. It’s a county, not a city. I don’t go out of state, or even out of town and care what county I’m in. 🤣poor execution of a potentially great listen.
