Xbox Console Controversy, Xbox Fire Stick Tested, Console Frame-Gen Returns!

In this week's Direct, Microsoft says you don't need an Xbox to play Xbox - but if they're talking about streaming on a Fire Stick 4K, we'd beg to differ. Meanwhile, Alex talks about a 1.4GHz CPU overclock for the OG Xbox and shares his thoughts on the new Black Myth: Wukong full RT assets and benchmarks. Oliver tests out Ace Combat 7 on Switch, while Rich checks out frame generation on the First Descendant - in 30fps fidelity mode, 40fps balanced mode and 60fps performance mode. FSR 3.1 First Look, Dead Rising Remake, Dragon's Dogma 2... Fixed?

In the latest DF Direct Weekly, we take a very early first look at FSR 3.1's improved spatial upscaling, which 'dropped' just prior to recording. And just why is PlayStation 5 so technically competitive with Xbox Series X, despite having less horsepower? It's been a mystery for years, but we may finally have some answers.

Best podcast!

Love listening to every episode

A good weekly staple

Great podcast to throw on while getting ready in the morning, eating lunch, or driving to get some groceries.

It's fun to hear the crews thoughts on the newest gaming news or trends as it gives me the illusion I still have time to enjoy this hobby ◔̯◔

Reasonable takes about half the time

The digital foundry crew is a smart bunch. So it’s wildly frustrating when they miss obvious points and evidence in front of them in lieu of going into pointless weeds and the weirdest hot takes you’ve heard this side of Twitter.

Most of the analysis of this podcast is reasonable, well considered, and articulated well. Sometimes even funny. I love the DF videos.

But the podcast is, in the parlance of the DF world, an unsteady 30fps with bad frame pacing. Even years later, the podcast remains awkward, silted, and a lot of the considerations seem just so narrow minded, it feels like we are listening to a totally different set of people.

This is most evident with the second half of every episode, where the DF crew takes on listener questions and spends about twenty minutes telling someone they’re wrong. It’s tedious at best and dreadfully boring at worst.

I keep listening for the great insight that you can’t get anywhere else in the industry.
