An audio exploration of what happens when the Paris fairytale ends and real-life begins, one solo dinner at a time.
Location: a kitchen in Paris
S3: Ep 7 Selfcare, Friendcare
"To me, friendships represent choice over birthright; they have a special kind of impact exactly because they're not inevitable. Friendship means conversation, and it's vital to my life because it's hard for me to have thoughts or even feelings independently, I need to talk things through." - Zadie Smith
S3: Ep 6 French Summer
The coronavirus curtailed my usual summer of traveling, which led me to lean into French summers, and while different from New York City summers, gave me a newfound appreciation for l'ètè à la français.
Meal made: salade niçoise
S3: Ep 5 Dating in the time of corona
In this episode, I dive deeper share how my feelings around dating have evolved, a few revelations I had around my pre-COVID dating habits, and how I plan on being a better dater in the future. I spoke about all this while making mackerel patties.
S3: Ep 4 Dinner for one in the time of corona
The non-Instagram filtered version of being alone in Paris during the lockdown period of the coronavirus pandemic.
S3: Ep 3 Becoming a French Jamaican Jerk Duck
What does that even mean? No, I am not talking about becoming a French citizen. In this episode, I discuss how I've come to the conclusion that the best way to experience life in Paris and lead a happy and successful expat life here is to create my own kind of Frenchness.
S3: Ep 2 Don't Lose Your Softness
I'm back in my kitchen, toute seule and in English, making one of my top 5 pasta dishes. In this episode, I discuss how I try to guard, or keep, my softness and optimism in this sometimes harsh digital world.

It’s like listening to an old friend chatting away
So chill, soothing and relatable as an American living in Europe. I loved the quote in episode one season one “I’ve invested so much in building a life here.” Thats how I feel about my life here in Europe, which is why I push thru each year with immigration and other expat musings. The pros out way the cons. The lovely podcast keeps it real. I can’t wait to listen to more episodes.
I truly enjoy listening to dinner for one. I truly feel as if I am having a conversation with a dear friend. I love the honesty and the value of self care present in this podcast.
Genuine and personal
I follow several Parisian podcasters and have been to Paris many times. “Dinner For One” by Sutanya is a refreshing, truthful look at life in Paris told one home cooked dinner at a time with you sitting at the table. It’s a wonderful balance of her recipes and meal preparation foiled by insightful views and conversations of her aspirations and disappointment. Not the typical “look at me” vacation blog. Rather what life in Paris is like at street level. It’s the good and not so good as told by an appreciative and confident woman. Highly recommend...Joe DiPrimio
