    Laken Riley Bill Passes House: Breakdown & Analysis

    On January 22,2025, the US House voted 263-156 in favor of passing the Laken Riley Act, which requires the Dept of Homeland Security to detain illegal immigrants charged with or convicted of theft- related crimes, assaulting a police officer, or a crime that results in death or serious bodily injury by drunk driving. It would also allow states to sue the DHS for alleged failures in immigration enforcement. Shawn and Dion break down the arguments both for against this legislation.
