    Episode 3 "Strike 1" of the Diverging Clear Podcast discusses the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) decision to order the the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference back to work and to continue negotiating a contract with the Canadian National (CN) and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) and if this decision could have implications on rail contracts on the American side of border. I also discuss Alan Shaw being terminated as CEO of the Norfolk Southern Railroad for an "inappropriate relationship".

Outgoing STB Chairman Marty Oberman recently called out Union Pacific's CEO Jim Vena for furloughing employees soon after he became the Chief Executive Officer. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, many of the railroads vowed to look at other options to furloughs if a recession hit and freight volumes dropped. They started to recognize that it was hurting their bottom line long-term, but one CEO has stayed the course with the old practice. Why?

Even though a tentative agreement has been reached between the carriers and labor unions. it still has to be approved by the members! Major point of contention , paid sick time off! for those that don't know, many railroad employees do not have paid sick time off, And the carriers want to keep it that way.
