    Aflevering 1: De klik is dood

    Welkom bij Klikt het? een maandelijkse onderzoekspodcast over de digitale relatie tussen journalisten en hun publiek. Technologie maakt innovatie in de journalistiek mogelijk waardoor journalisten hun publiek beter kunnen bedienen, met hen kunnen samenwerken en gebruikers makkelijker aan nieuws kunnen komen. Tegelijkertijd heeft technologie een andere – meer belemmerende - kant: journalisten laten statistieken over online bezoek bijvoorbeeld een rol spelen in de keuzes die ze maken in hun werk, en algoritmes beïnvloeden nieuwsgebruikers in hun selectieproces. Dit kan als verontrustend worden gezien. Maar hoe ziet deze relatie er eigenlijk precies uit? Hoe zien journalisten hun publiek, en welk beeld is daarbij bepalend voor hun werkpraktijken en rolbeleving? En wat verwacht het publiek van journalisten/ het nieuws en hoe zien zij hun eigen rol in nieuwsproductie? Deze podcast heeft deze gedigitaliseerde journalist-publiek relatie als onderwerp. In deze eerste aflevering legt Dr. Mijke Slot van Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam uit waarom de klik als meetinstrument dood is, maar als thema voor een onderzoek springlevend.  Feedback of commentaar?     Episode 1: The click is dead

    Welcome to Do we click?, a monthly research podcast on the digital relationship between journalists and their audiences. Technology enables innovation in journalism - providing the tools to journalists to serve their audiences better, to be able to cooperate with them, and audiences can find their news content more easily. At the same time, technology has a different, more challenging side; journalists use web metrics to make choices in their daily work, and algorithms influence news users in their selection process. This is worrying. But what exactly is this digital journalist - audience relationship? How do journalists perceive their audiences, and what audience image determines the way they work? And what do audiences expect of journalists and how do they see their own part in news production? This podcast explores all these questions. In this first episode, Dr. Mijke Slot of Erasmus University Rotterdam explains why the click as a measuring tool is dead, but as a theme for a research project very much alive.   Feedback or comments?     Aflevering 2: Praktijk, perceptie en een persoonlijk verhaal over bezoekersstatistieken

    In de tweede aflevering van Klikt het?, deelt Mijke haar eigen frustraties met bezoekersstatistieken en zoekt ze naar een goede definitie van de journalist-publiek relatie. Onderzoeksassistent Temi de Groen laat in een bespreking van twee internationale cases zien, dat er verschillende manieren zijn waarop nieuwsorganisaties de relatie met hun publiek proberen te versterken.

    Episode 2: Practices, perceptions and a personal story about audience metrics

    In the second episode of Do we click?, Mijke shares her personal frustrations with audience metrics, and tries to find a good definition of the journalist-audience relationship. Research assistant Temi de Groen discusses two international cases to show that news organizations have very different ways of strengthening the relationship they have with their audiences.

    Aflevering 3: Plugged in; De rol van technologie in de journalistiek

    Wat doe je als je er onderweg achter komt dat je je telefoon vergeten bent? Raak je in paniek en ren je terug om hem op te halen? Hoe vaak gebruik je internet om treintijden, routebeschrijvingen of nieuws en informatie op te zoeken? Of om jezelf af te leiden van een moeilijke taak? Zonder het te beseffen hebben de meesten van ons technologieën volledig geïntegreerd in ons dagelijks leven. Dit is ook het geval in de journalistiek - zowel journalisten als hun publiek gebruiken technologie om nieuws te produceren, en consumeren, en om met elkaar in gesprek te gaan. In de derde aflevering van Klikt het?, verfijnt Mijke ons begrip van de relatie tussen journalist en publiek door de rol van technologie uit te leggen en enkele interviewobservaties te delen.

    Episode 3: Plugged in; The role of technology in journalism

    What do you do when you realize you forgot your phone at home? Do you panic and run back to get it? How often do you use the internet to look for train times, directions or news and information? Or to distract yourself from a difficult task? Without realizing it, most of us have completely integrated technologies into our daily lives. This is also the case in journalism – both journalists and their audiences use technologies to produce and consume news, and to communicate with each other. In the third episode of Do we click?, Mijke refines our understanding of the journalist-audience relationship by explaining the role of technology, and shares some interview observations.

    Aflevering 4: Het publieksdilemma (deel 1); Iedereen is het publiek

    Het is belangrijk voor nieuwsorganisaties om hun publiek te interesseren voor nieuws. Maar niet elk belangrijk nieuwsfeitje is even spannend en interessant. Hoe vinden nieuwsorganisaties nu de balans tussen het informeren en het betrekken en entertainen van hun publiek? In deze aflevering, deel 1 van het publieksdilemma, legt Mijke eerst uit wat het publiek is, en zet ze uiteen wat Nederlandse journalisten eigenlijk weten over hun publiek. Ook laat ze een paar interessante voorbeelden zien van hoe journalisten hun publiek daadwerkelijk beter leren ken

  8. Episodio 8

    Episode 4: The audience dilemma (part 1); Everybody is the audience

    It is important for news organizations to interest their audience members for the news. But not every important news fact is equally exciting and interesting. How do news organizations balance informing and engaging their audiences? In this episode, part 1 of the audience dilemma, Mijke explains what the audience is, and shows what Dutch journalists actually know about their audiences. She also gives some interesting examples of ways in which journalists get to know their audience members better.
