    05 - The Writer's Guide to Shameless Self-Promotion (LIVE)

On today's episode of DOG EARS, we're talking about shameless self promotion! Recorded live at the 2024 Ghoulish Book Festival, we cannot promise everything advised on this panel will be legal. Obligatory “please don’t sue us” plea. Seriously. We cannot afford any court fees right now. Do you have any idea how expensive it is to put on a three-day festival in the downtown area of a city? Holy shit please don’t sue us. Featuring: Kelby Losack (moderator), Jeff Strand, Sonora Taylor, Wesley Southard, and Richard Z. Santos.

    04 - Research 101 (LIVE)

How do writers utilize research to improve their work? What resources do they use? How do they approach experts to interview about bizarre topics? What's the weirdest stuff they've ever investigated for a project? In today's episode of DOG EARS, recorded live at the 2024 Ghoulish Book Festival, we attempt to address all of these questions and much more. Featuring: Richard Z. Santos (moderator), Laurel Hightower, Daniel Kraus, Jess Hagemann, and Leticia Urieta.

03 - The Ins and Outs of Indie Publishing (LIVE)

What is indie publishing, and how does it work? In this live panel discussion recorded at the 2024 Ghoulish Book Festival in San Antonio, TX, we attempt to answer that question and only barely scratch the surface, but this is a good start to a very complicated topic. Moderated by Jeff Strand and featuring Matt Blairstone, Mark Scioneaux, Holly Rae Garcia, and Chris Krawczyk.

    02 - How to Self-Publish Comic Books

    02 - How to Self-Publish Comic Books

Max invites Zach Chapman (House of Blood, A Haunting on Mars) to discuss what goes into self-publishing comic books. From the scripting process, to recruiting a team of artists, and also to actually printing the physical product. This is a crash course on the absolute essentials everybody interested in creating comic books needs to know.
We also offer a few words of (hopeful) wisdom to the authors currently without a publisher in the wake of Polis Books announcing their imminent closure. Plus: RIP Sue Arroyo of CamCat Books.

01 - Smiling As They Shovel Dirt On Your Face

01 - Smiling As They Shovel Dirt On Your Face

In the debut episode of DOG EARS, Max talks about how a genuine lunatic published his first short story, and warns writers about common red flags when it comes to submitting to open markets. What is an anthology mill, and why should you finally start respecting yourself as a writer and stop settling for anybody just to see your name in print?
