Thriving in Grace, Karen Dittman’s Story of Faith

What happens when life defies all your expectations and forces you to navigate one impossible challenge after another? Karen Dittman knows this reality all too well. Karen's extraordinary parenting journey spans over 25 years, bookended by infertility struggles and a shocking pregnancy at age 46. In between, she's navigated what she calls "the five A's" with her children: adoption, anxiety, ADHD, autism, and addiction. Perhaps most heartbreaking was the period when her daughter disappeared into addiction, leaving behind a three-year-old child and Karen wondering if she was alive or dead. With remarkable vulnerability, Karen shares the painful lessons she learned during these dark days. "I was going to help her, fix her, fight this battle," she recalls thinking about her daughter's addiction, "but that was my mistake. It wasn't ever my battle to fight." This profound realization – that we cannot fight others' battles for them – serves as a beacon for anyone loving someone through addiction or mental health challenges. Karen's story isn't just about surviving difficulty but finding ways to thrive through it. She offers practical wisdom for those in similar situations: find your community of people who truly understand without judgment, and make time for spiritual renewal daily, even if it's just "seven minutes with Jesus." These practices sustained her when hope seemed impossible. The beauty of Karen's testimony lies in its resolution – her daughter has now been sober for nearly two years, is working, has her own place, and is rebuilding her relationship with her child. It's living proof that even our most desperate situations can transform. Karen and her husband Michael have channeled their experiences into their book "Thriving in Grace: Unleashing Wellness from a Biblical Perspective," written during the very trials they were enduring. The Divine Dialogue: Understanding Prayer for Healing with Rev. David Chotka

The false dichotomy between medicine and miracles has troubled believers for generations, leaving many caught between their faith and practical healthcare decisions. In this profound conversation with Dr. David Chotka, we unravel this tension by exploring how scripture itself demonstrates the harmonious relationship between divine intervention and medical treatment. Dr. Chotka shares his own dramatic healing story—diagnosed with Ramsey-Hunt syndrome that paralyzed his face, doctors declared his preaching career over. Medical science offered no hope for recovery. Yet through specific prayer and prophetic words, he experienced complete restoration that his physician acknowledged was "beyond scientific explanation." Despite this miraculous experience, Dr. Chotka readily takes antibiotics when needed, modeling a balanced approach to health and healing. The heart of our discussion reveals five distinct pathways God uses for healing: instantaneous miracles, natural restoration processes, medical treatments developed through human ingenuity, suffering that lacks immediate explanation, and the final crossing into eternity. These pathways aren't competing alternatives but complementary approaches that often intertwine throughout our healing journeys. Perhaps most moving is Dr. Chotka testimony of his wife's healing from muscular dystrophy after twenty years of prayer without visible results. The breakthrough came not when they intensified their requests, but when they shifted focus to "seek the healer, not the healing." This profound reorientation—asking how they could serve God with diminishing capacity rather than demanding restoration—preceded the miraculous intervention that defied medical explanation. Whether you're struggling with an ongoing health challenge, supporting someone who is, or simply seeking to understand how faith and medicine work together, this episode offers both practical wisdom and spiritual encouragement. Join us in discovering how to pray effectively for healing while honoring both the supernatural power of God and the natural remedies He's provided through human innovation. Faith & Finances: Aligning Your Money with God's Purpose

Welcome to the Dorsey Ross Show  Katie Viola Jones transforms our understanding of money management through a gospel-centered lens that challenges conventional wisdom about wealth and faith. As a certified Christian financial counselor and founder of Redeeming Your Finances, Katie shares her personal awakening - how she realized she was pursuing financial independence not just for security, but as a substitute for dependence on God. Katie's approach differs dramatically from typical financial advice. Rather than simply teaching budgeting techniques or investment strategies, she addresses the heart issues behind financial struggles. "I realized that true biblical financial freedom comes when we let go of asking our money to do for us what only God can do - give us security, hope, and identity," Katie explains with disarming honesty. The conversation tackles difficult questions about prosperity theology, revealing how even devoted Christians can unconsciously adopt worldly financial mindsets. Katie confesses she once treated Scripture as a validation tool for her financial ambitions rather than seeking God's actual purpose for her resources. This revelation transformed her relationship with money and developed into a ministry helping others align their finances with biblical principles. Perhaps most compelling is Katie's perspective on generosity. She challenges listeners to move beyond comfortable tithing to sacrificial giving that feels uncomfortable, citing Jesus's praise of the widow who gave her last two coins. "Biblical generosity needs to be sacrificial. We need to give something up in order to gain more of the kingdom of God," she asserts with gentle conviction. Whether you're struggling with debt, trapped in a paycheck-to-paycheck cycle, or financially stable but seeking greater purpose for your resources, Katie's wisdom provides a roadmap for aligning your money with your faith. Connect with her through the "Christian Money Management" Facebook group or visit redeemingyourfinances.com to discover how financial stewardship can become an authentic expression of your relationship with Christ. https://www.facebook.com/groups/christianmoneymanagement Katie’s website  https://www.redeemingyourfinances.com/ Let me know what you think of this episode? Lena’s journey from internet marketer to learning God’s purpose.

What happens when everything you've built suddenly crumbles? For Lena, the collapse of her successful internet marketing business and the end of her marriage became the catalyst for extraordinary spiritual transformation. Her story reveals how God redirects our paths when we least expect it. From dreaming of Hollywood stardom as a girl in Arctic Norway to becoming a top-producing internet marketer, Lena had achieved what looked like success. Yet beneath the accolades and material comfort, she recognized a spiritual emptiness—her relationship with God had become secondary to her ambitions. When her business unexpectedly collapsed in 2013, everything changed. Today, Lena leads community outreach at her Los Angeles church while traveling to maximum security prisons in Mexico, providing eyeglasses and sharing the gospel with inmates who find profound joy despite their circumstances. Her approach to sharing faith is refreshingly practical—focusing on "seed sowing" rather than pressure, helping people move just one step closer to God through authentic conversation. Perhaps most powerfully, Lena shares the life-altering experience of helping her severely autistic stepson recover from a debilitating swallowing disorder that nearly claimed his life. For nine months, she and her husband quit their jobs to spoon-feed him 12 hours daily, witnessing a miraculous recovery that culminated symbolically on Easter Sunday when he took his first bite of solid food. Through these crucibles, Lena discovered a formula for unshakable joy: Jesus first, Others second, Yourself third. Her upcoming book explores living the abundant Christian life Jesus promised—finding peace, purpose, and strength regardless of external circumstances. Ready to discover your unique spiritual gifts and calling? Visit shelivesabundantly.com for Lena's resources and join her journey toward purposeful Christian living. The Swiss Army Knife of Disability Advocacy

What does it take to become a "Swiss Army Knife of Disability Advocacy"? For John Fela, it began with the birth of his son with autism who is now 16 and nonverbal. His journey from confused parent to national advocate reveals the profound challenges and unexpected gifts that come with raising a child with disabilities. The path wasn't always clear. John candidly shares his initial struggle to accept his son's diagnosis and find his footing as a father when traditional parenting roles were upended. "What I struggled with in the beginning was finding my role," he explains. "I couldn't be the breadwinner, I couldn't manage all the therapies—so who was I as a parent, as a husband, as a father?" This identity crisis eventually led him to discover his true gifts in advocacy, networking, and relationship-building. Education presents particular challenges for families navigating disability. John offers valuable insights about the realities of public versus private schooling, cautioning parents not to be deceived by appearances: "Anything looks good on a website." His family ultimately made the difficult decision to place their son in a residential facility a thousand miles from home—a choice requiring tremendous surrender but proving beneficial for their son's development. Communication with a nonverbal child requires creativity and patience. Through a combination of body language interpretation, basic signing, and assistive technology, John has found ways to connect with his son. He emphasizes the importance of addressing individuals with disabilities directly rather than speaking about them as if they aren't present: "He doesn't speak, but he does hear." The conversation takes a powerful turn when John discusses the vital importance of community support. Having transitioned from feeling completely alone to building a national network, he now helps other families find their lifelines. His work with Joni and Friends, a global Christian disability ministry, allows him to help churches create welcoming environments for people with all types of disabilities—visible and invisible. Looking toward the future, John confronts the reality many special needs parents face: what happens when they're no longer there? With his son being an only child, creating intentional community becomes even more critical. Who will check on him, celebrate birthdays, or simply offer a hug? Whether you're navigating disability personally or seeking to better support those who are, John's story offers profound wisdom about finding purpose through unexpected challenges and building communities that sustain us through life's most difficult journeys.
