    The Doves start off by talking about last night’s Oscars! AP is mourning Sinners’ Best Picture loss and has a bone to pick with Paul Thomas Anderson for his lack of clarity about One Battle After Another’s politics. Marcy would have been happy with either winning Best Picture and winds up sounding like a PTA stan. Then it’s onto Gregg Araki’s 1992 gay classic, The Living End. About two HIV-positive young gay men who randomly meet and have a violence and sex filled road trip. How does this fit into the IT miniseries? Very well, actually. And of course the Doves are going to talk about vampires. AP is inspired by the toxic relationship to find a boyfriend. Marcy wants to watch more Araki movies to fill her queer cinematic blindspots. And as per usual, the US government is vilified, but this time it’s George H. W. Bush. It’s a movie about a comet turning people into dust and 2 sisters navigating the new world. There are zombies Scientists conducting strange experiments. Weird guys looking to make bad time. It’s a B movie. Well move of a C -movie. The Doves talk about oddities of this movie and the strange mix of old school bigotry and heteronormativity. This episode also marks the start of the “IT” miniseries. A set of episodes that are going to explore the wish of major change happening but crucially not being part of the large change. Night of the Comet is exactly that. A movie where the two sisters fumble and get mistreated by men. Still keeping a candle on for the sake of a boyfriend to arrive. It they do. Oof.
