A Short History Of the K-Drama Industry Before Netflix
In this episode, we talk about how K-dramas became a highly profitable export long before the entry of streaming platforms in the mid 2010s. This is a story of a nation's economic crisis, the creation of a unique opportunity, and a two decade long struggle for air wave supremacy in East Asia.

A Long Yak on Doctor Slump, Marry My Husband, and Like Flowers In Sand
We are back with a long yak on three dramas we started 2024 with: Doctor Slump, Marry My Husband, and Like Flowers In Sand.
This episode was recorded on 11th February. Our feelings on these dramas have stayed the same (with Doctor Slump getting special love for staying so reliably warm till the end).

Past Lives is a gorgeous meditation on love and regret | Spoiled Yak
Awards season is the perfect time for us to share our review of Past Lives, our favorite film of last year. Saya, Anisa and our friend Yunah talk about why this movie's meditations on grief, love, diaspora and selfhood spoke to us so deeply. (We recorded this at the end of last year.)

Customer Reviews
really enjoying 😊
I have really been enjoying this podcast, especially the analyses of all of the hosts. you can tell they care about the work and effort they put into this podcast.
Wonderful Podcast
This podcast got me through the pandemic. Their analyses are ALWAYS thought provoking and sometimes hilarious. I particularly love Paroma’s insights and wit! Saya is intelligent and loves darker fare while Anisa has knowledge of the Korean language. I also adore their BTS appreciation.
Always insightful, but sometimes hard to understand titles
Just listened to your 2023 review which is incredibly insightful but there were more than usual moments where you mentioned dramas where you said the title so quickly I couldn't understand it. When you recommend dramas in a throw-away manner, perhaps you could list the titles in the episode notes? Because I'm always interested in knowing what these older dramas are since I didn't start watching K dramas until 2021 & have gradually come to realize that the ones I prefer were all made in prior years. Thank you!
