Guests: Lorna McAtear, National Grid’s Fleet Manager Steve Winter – Head of Fleet @ British Gas Olly Craughan – Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at DPD Topics discussed in this episode: THE FLEET 1. How many vehicles are there in your existing fleets, what proportion are EV, and do you have a target to move towards? 2. How should companies approach transitioning their fleets to EV? Is it a software or a hardware conversation? 3. What are the key challenges facing companies in electrifying their fleets? (e.g. infrastructure, finance, policy, consumer adoption/attitudes)? 4. What are some best practices, in how National Grid, British Gas and DPD are driving forward the transition of their fleets to 100% zero emissions? 5. What are the cost challenges and benefits of deploying an EV Fleet? Where can businesses source finance for EV fleet and infrastructure? 6. Is there support to you for change? From Government? From the business? Who can fleet operators speak to? 7. What is expected of stakeholders in the transport ecosystem to support electrification, including policymakers and consumers? Why is a coherent, coordinated effort (across supply, demand, and infrastructure) so important? 8. When should listeners make decisions on EV Fleet conversion? THE DRIVER 1. Has driver behaviour changed since their transition to EV? 2. What did you need to tell the drivers? 3. Where do drivers perform most of their EV charging? What is the % in your opinion? Powering the Charge for High Power eMobility | Drive to Net Zero

This is a thought leadership conversation around the future of emobility with specific emphasis on high power charging of cars, trucks and eBuses. We want independent panellists to give their thoughts and opinions on the topics outlined below. Guests: Sam Clarke is the Chief Vehicle Officer at GRIDSERVE and is an entrepreneur, investor, EV evangelist, a Fellow (FloC) and sector chair for the National Institute of Couriers. Prior to joining Gridserve Sam was the Pioneer behind Gnewt, the green logistics specialist he founded in 2009 with Gnewt winning national and global awards during its decade long journey of last-mile logistics using only electric vehicles. Graeme Cooper leads National Grid’s work on electric vehicles / decarbonisation of transport by leading and coordinating all the work relating to the UK regulated business of National Grid. His work helps the Government, the energy and automotive industry’s transition towards zero emission vehicles. With over a decade in communications infrastructure and over a decade in low/zero carbon electricity, Graeme is a well-known and highly respected energy industry expert. Finally, Andy Eastlake was appointed as ZEMO’s, Managing Director in April 2012, after serving both on the board and as chair of the Members Council for many years. As MD Andy has been integrally involved in the design and implementation of the latest accreditation schemes for both buses and HGVs, supporting Dept for Transport and OLEV in stimulating the uptake of low carbon technologies.". Topics discussed in this episode: - Electrical Vehicle • Which strategy would you use to phase out petrol and diesel cars? • Given the aggressive targets for EV’s, should we be looking to mirror the ban on ICE with hybrid vehicles as well? • Do we have enough capacity on the network? • What do you believe the EV landscape will look like in 10 years’ time? • As we leave the covid pandemic and move to a more digital culture, how will this impact EV adoption? • Battery degradation, does this exist in EV’s, if so, at what levels are we seeing? • What do you like about driving your EV? What do you miss about your ICE vehicle? • What do we do with the battery once the EV is at end of life? - Ebuses and etrucks • Why is the government pushing so hard to promote ebuses / zero emission buses? • What are the barriers to adoption of ebuses currently? • How is the gov supporting operators transition to ebuses? • Is it all about zero emission from the tailpipe? • How important is renewable electricity in ebus operation? • How does ebus compare with hydrogen fuel cell buses? Is there room for both technologies? We explore topics on renewables, smart homes, emobility. Guest: Lord Deben is Chairman of the UK's independent Committee on Climate Change. He also chairs the sustainability consultancy Sancroft International and recycler Valpak. He is a trustee of climate change charity Cool Earth, alongside the ocean conservation charity, Blue Marine Foundation As Environment Secretary he introduced the Environment Act 1995 and the Landfill Tax, which was the first such environmental tax in the UK. During this time, he also pursued environmental causes, introducing an Early Day Motion on global warming to Parliament. He was also instrumental in the passing of the Climate Change Act of 2008. The BBC Wildlife magazine described Lord Deben as the "Environment Secretary against which all others are judged". In 1997, he was also awarded the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds Medal and was described by Friends of the Earth as "the best Environment Secretary we've ever had". Topics discussed in this episode: Power and Industry In the lead up to COP26, are there any countries you believe are leading the green industrial revolution? Government policy, is it in the right place now? Do you believe the ‘grid’ is ready for a future of decentralised energy generation, both from the grid and the Prosumer? Where do you believe industry now needs to focus to continue the improvement in this area of carbon reduction? What are your thoughts around the adoption of renewable energy generation and storage? Is it as you’d expect to be, or do you feel we can accelerate deployment? Decarbonising Transport 1. With EV’s on the road now totalling about 400,000 vs a 38 million ICE vehicles, why do you think progress has been relatively slow in EV adoption? 2. What can be done to accelerate EV adoption? 3. How do you think transport will evolve over the next 10 years? Compact Mobility / Air mobility / automated driving? 4. What do you believe are the main opportunities and challenges are for electric vehicles? 5. Fuel tax on internal combustion engine cars has been a valuable source of income for the government, how do we feel they will recoup this revenue as the mass market migrates to electric? Building Net Zero Homes 1. How do you think housebuilders and developers have embraced the concept of smart homes & buildings in general? 2. How does the role of central and local government differ in the smart home of the future, what are the areas to consider to ensure success? 3. What type of technology should we be looking at to decarbonise homes and does this differ between old and new dwellings? 4. Are we ready for a more complex network with things such as bi-directional power flow and 3 phase supply in the home? 5. Does hydrogen have a role to play in decarbonising the home of the future?
